Botswana - Apply for Animal Transit Permit or License

Apply In-Person
- The application for Animal Transit Permit or License shall be made to the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (DWNP) office, which is under the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources Conservation, and Tourism office. Ministry contact details.
- Applicants are required to collect and complete the Animal Transit Application Form, Copies of the Application Form are available for free at the DWNP office, or directly download it using this link;Animal Transit Application Form
- The application form duly completed in all respect, and the supporting documentation should be submitted to the nearest DWNP licensing office.
- Upon receipt of the application file, the receiving officer will verify if all the necessary information and documentation has been provided and that the applications comply with the selection criteria before registering the file for processing, which is usually within five working days.
- The applicant will be required to make payment for the processing fee and obtain a payment receipt.
- Applicants will also be issued with an acknowledgment letter as proof of submission of the application.
- After the lapse of the processing period, applicants should visit the DWNP office, where the application was filed to check the outcome.
- If approved, the permit/license will be drawn up, signed, and stamped by the authorized office and made available for withdrawal by the applicant in person at the DWNP dispatch office, where the application was lodged.
- The applicant will be required to produce a proof of identity document and acknowledgment letter while collecting the transit Animal License or Permit.

Fees differ according to the animal products and species as per the Wildlife Act of 1992. Please consult the Department of Wildlife and National Parks office.

Need for the DocumentEdit
This Permit is issued primarily to businesses that wish to transport animals/wildlife in and out of Botswana. The Permit is necessary as it restricts the movement of animals/wildlife from one place to another. This Permit covers land and air transport. There are no restrictions on the number of animals to be transported and the Permit does not include domestic animals.
