ProcedureEdit

Apply In-Person

  1. To apply for the Accreditation of International Journalists, applicants are expected to start the application process with the Ministry for Presidential Affairs Governance and Public Administration at least one month before the intended travel to Botswana. Ministry contact details.
  2. The applicant will be required to complete the Application Form for Press Accreditation, these forms are available for free at the Ministry front desk or directly download it using this Application for Press Accreditation Link.
  3. The duly completed application form with the attachment should be submitted to the ministry office either in person, which can be done through an authorized person or fax or mail for processing and consideration by the department/unit concerned.
  4. Once the accreditation processing is completed; which is usually within 3 working days, the applicant will be contacted via phone/mail/ fax and notified of the outcome.
  5. If approved the press accreditation ID will be drawn up signed and stamped by the authorized office and made available for withdrawal by the applicant in person at the ministry dispatch office.
  6. The applicant will be required to produce proof of identity while collecting his/her accreditation card (Press Card).

  • Copies of the first two pages of the applicant’s passport
  • Two (2) passport-sized photos
  • An official assignment letter from the media organization. This letter should:
    • Confirm that the journalist/photographer is on an assignment for the news agency/newspaper/station
    • State the event or topic the journalist/photographer is covering
    • Provide the time frame required for coverage
    • Provide a copy of the press card or other form of identification that confirms that the journalist is employed by the specific media house

Need for the DocumentEdit

The purpose of granting accrediting to foreign journalists in any coverage while in the country is to ensure that Botswana is not misrepresented by giving false information to the outside world.
