Apply Online

  1. To File a Claim Against Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme (WBCIS), the applicant can make the application online via the PMFBY website or tap the following link
  2. The applicant has to click the “Report crop loss claim”.
  3. It will redirect to the page, including the insurance companies’ names and contact details like toll-free numbers, email IDs, and addresses.
  4. The applicant has to contact the insurance company to file the claim.
  5. The procedure of assessment and settlement of claims are automated processes, and the claim amount is credited to the insured farmers’ bank account.
  6. The entire process can be completed in 30 – 45 days or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.


Apply Through App

  1. To File a Claim Against Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme (WBCIS), the applicant has to install the Crop insurance app from the app store using the following link
  2. The applicant has to click “Register as farmer”
  3. Enter your “Bank Details” and click on the “Next” button.
  4. Fill in the “Crop Details” page and upload all the documents needed.
  5. After all the details are entered, click on the “Submit” button to register.
  6. Login and enter your mobile number in the next page and the CAPTCHA and click on the “Request or OTP” button.
  7. After entering the OTP, fill in the application for crop insurance scheme and submit it.
  8. Once you have submitted your application, you will be notified with your receipt number.
  9. You can find the status of your application by clicking on “Status of Insurance Policy”.
  10. On the homepage click on the “Application Status” icon.
  11. Enter the “Application No” and “Captcha Code” then click on the “Check Status” button. The status of your application will be displayed.

Apply Through CSC

  1. To File a Claim Against Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme (WBCIS), the applicant has to approach respective “CSC” centre link
    NOTE: The applicant has to select state, district and block name from the drop-down menu, or the applicant has to click on their respective district to find nearby centres.
  2. Please visit the centre and consult with the centre operator for your requirement.
  3. If the operator issues an application form, then collect it and pay the requisite fee. Please complete the application form.
  4. Now, submit the completed application along with the required documents as per the “Required Documents” section of this page. It is advised to take the documents in original to the kiosk for scanning purposes.
  5. The operator will process the application online. On successful submission, the applicant will receive an application number as acknowledgement. The applicant will also get a transaction number as a text message on their registered mobile number.
  6. Applicant has to make necessary payment as centre operator quotes and don’t forget to take the receipt.
  7. This application will be forwarded to the respective department for further processing.
  8. ”SMS” triggered update on application status will be sent to the applicant’s mobile. Please keep track of the notification.
  9. The submitted application will be processed by the department. A designated authority (supply officer) will verify the submitted documents and inspect the area of the applicant to clarify the applicant’s details.
  10. Once everything is approved the incentive amount under this scheme will be disbursed directly into the student’s Bank Account.
  11. The status, viz. Approval or Rejection will be conveyed to the applicant through an “SMS” or applicable norms.

The non-loanee farmers need to submit the following documents to utilise the benefit of WBCIS.

  • Records of Right (RoR)
  • Required contract documents
  • Land Possession Certificate (LPC)
  • Documents with agreement details
  • The concerned State Government may ask for additional documents from sharecroppers and tenant farmers.

EligibilityEdit

The eligibility criteria to obtain the insurance benefit of the Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme are explained in detail below:

Eligible Farmers

  • All farmers, including the sharecroppers and tenant farmers growing the notified crops in the notified areas, are eligible for this Scheme.
    Note: The farmers should have insurable interest for the insured crops.
  • All farmers availing the Seasonal Agricultural Operations (SAO) loans from Financial Institutions (. loanee farmers) for the notified crops are eligible
  • The Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme is optional for the non-loanee farmers.
  • Special importance will be provided for SC/ ST/ Women farmers under this Scheme.


Eligible Crops The following crops are covered under the Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme:

  • Food Crops – Cereals, Millets and Pulses
  • Oilseeds
  • Commercial or Horticultural crops

  • If the applicant is applying for the PMFBY scheme online the fee for this procedure is free of cost.
  • If the applicant is applying PMFBY scheme via the CSC centre, the applicant has to pay the service fee as per the authority's request.

  • Weather-based Crop Insurance Scheme (WBCIS) is designed to provide insurance protection against losses in crop yield resulting from adverse weather incidences. This unique weather-based insurance product provides payout against adverse rainfall incidence (both deficit and excess) during Kharif and adverse impact in weather parameters during Rabi.

  • Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme aims to alleviate the hardship of the insured farmers against the likelihood of financial loss on account of the anticipated crop loss resulting from incidence of adverse conditions of weather parameters like un-seasonal rainfall, temperature, frost, relative humidity etc.
  • Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme (WBCIS) uses weather parameters as a proxy for crop yields in compensating the cultivators for deemed crop losses. Payout structures will be developed to the extent of losses deemed to have been suffered using the weather triggers.

Weather Perils
The major weather perils, which are deemed to cause adverse weather incidence leading to crop loss, will be covered under this Scheme:

  • Rainfall – Excess rainfall, Deficit Rainfall, Unseasonal Rainfall, Rainy days, Dry-spell and Dry days
  • Temperature– High temperature (heat), Low temperature
  • Relative Humidity
  • Wind Speed
  • A combination of the above weather perils
  • Hailstorm, cloud-burst will be covered as Add-on/Index-Plus products for those farmers who have already taken normal coverage under WBCIS


Only the adverse weather incidences which can cause substantial crop losses should be included, or the triggers identified in such a way that significant losses will be captured.
