Procedure

1. Submit the completed application form for retail and wholesale trade (Form II) with a legal stamp affixed to it.
2. The applicant must also submit, two recent passport sized photographs of the applicant. If the application is for a partnership license all partners must submit their photographs.
3. The applicant(s) (sole proprietorship or partnership) must also present their original citizenship identity card at the CC/RTIO representative when applying for the retail trade license.
4. The applicant(s) should have valid security clearance while applying for retail trade license. It will be verified by the CC operator or RTIO online using the citizenship identity card of the applicant(s).

Eligibility

Citizens of Bhutan, aged 18 and above.

Fees

• Large Scale: Nu. 10,100
• Medium Scale: Nu. 5,100
• Small Scale: Nu. 3,100

The applicant must also pay for printing, scanning or photography charges if the service is availed from CC.

Validity

Retail Trade Licenses are valid for a period of one year.

Submit your applications to obtain a retail trade license at the Regional Trade and Industry Offices of the Ministry of Economic Affairs or any Community Center under its jurisdiction.

Need for the Document

Being in retail business involves selling goods and services. A retailer purchases goods or products in bulks from manufacturers directly or through a wholesaler, and then sells them in smaller quantities to the consumer for a profit.

Laws of Bhutan requires a retailer to obtain a retail trade license first, before he/she can begin operating the business.
