Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. Obtain the Driver's License Application form from the Information Desk at the Transport Control Department or online through the Government of Bermuda website: websiteor Download it directly form via this link:form
2. Read the Guidelines and fill the application form correctly to avoid misunderstandings.You will need a doctor to complete part of the form to certify you are fit to operate a motor vehicle. Note that the completed medical examination form is only valid for 3 months.
3. Attach these required documents (your birth certificate, a valid passport, or a work permit) to application from and submit it to the Transport Control Department main office.
4. The official will verify your application and it is correct you will qualify for a Written Exams (Theory electronic exams).
5. Pay the application fees for the written exams according to your category of interest and do the exams (Theory electronic exams) and if you pass, purchase a learner’s permit. Note:The electronic exam will test your general knowledge of the rules of the road, speed limits, and signage. You can purchase the handbook at the main office of the Transport Control Department.
6. After passing the written exams, schedule an appointment to take a driving test at the TCD ground. Note that the appointment should be done by 12 noon prior to the actual date of the practical exams or you will be subjected for cancellation for late appointments. 7. Finally after passing the driving test, you will be issued a licence for up to a period of ten years, or up to your 65th birthday. At 65 years of age, your driver’s licence is renewed every five years. After the age of 75, the licence has to be renewed every two years. Upon payment of the driver’s license.
   

NOTE:

• The practical test covers basic topics, and tests for 4-wheel cycles also include a parallel parking test, reversing test, and a supervised driving test.
• If you are interested in a commercial truck licence, please visit the Transport Control Department main office to apply.

• Auxiliary Cycle: 16
• Motor Cycle: 18
• All other Vehicle Classes: 18

Visitors can apply for the DL if they are able to prove that they will reside in Bermuda for a period of 30 days or more or if they have resided in Bermuda for 30 days or more

Note: TCD accepts cash, Master Card, and Visa. There are no ATMs at any of the TCD Location

Validity

A driver's license is normally valid for 10 years, driver's license validity varies for holders aged 65 up.<,br>

• For license holders aged between 65 and 75: 5 years
• Over 75 years old: 2 years

Instructions

• To get a driver’s license, you must be able to prove that you will be resident in Bermuda for a period of 30 days or more. In the case of visitors renting property on a holiday basis for 30 days or more, a copy of your lease may be required.
• You might find it helpful to book an orientation lesson with a local driving instructor. This will familiarize you with local driving practices, city road markings, and the one way routes throughout the city. To book an orientation lesson, please contact the TCD main office.
• Applications for a driver's license are processed by the Transport Control Department.
