How to Apply:

  1. Once you have attained the age of 65 and you are eligible for the COE, you can obtain the application form for the certificate in three ways:
    • You will automatically receive the application form through your pension documents/forms.
    • You can download the application form online through the government of Bermuda website:website via this link:Form
    • You can obtain the application form personally by collecting it at the Health Insurance Department, the Department of Social Insurance.
  2. Fill the application form with the correct details
  3. Submit the complete application form to the Health Insurance Department by
    • In person by visit the Health Insurance Department and hand your application for processing
    • By Mailing your application to the Health Insurance Department though their mailing address: Health Insurance Department, P.O. Box HM 2160, Hamilton HM JX
  4. The health department will cross check the details you have provided in your application, if they meets the minimum requirements, they will processed and you will receive your certificate.

EligibilityEdit

To be eligible for the aged subsidy, a person must:

  • Be 65 years or older,
  • Possess Bermudian status,
  • Reside in Bermuda, and
  • Have resided in Bermuda for ten (10) continuous years during the last 20 years before the application
  • During the 10 years, have not been absent abroad for more than three (3) months other than for educational/vocational training, or holiday.

  • Certificate of Entitlement (COE) is a Government Subsidized Fund Benefit, for those whom are deemed eligible residents of Bermuda once they have turned the age of 65 years. The benefit pays a percentile of local hospitalized treatments and services (Standard Health Benefits) as well as becoming eligible for paying a reduced premium for HIP and FutureCare Heath Insurance policies.

Need for the DocumentEdit

A Certificate of Entitlement (COE) is issued to Bermudian residents who qualify for the Governments aged subsidy and it:

  • Assists in covering the cost of basic care and services performed as either an inpatient or outpatient at Bermuda Hospitals Board facilities, or facilities approved by the Bermuda Health Council, and
  • Reduces premiums for HIP and FutureCare.
