How to apply:

  1. Eligible applicants should Visit the Directorate of Emigration and Immigration office near you and obtain the application form.
  2. Submit the completed form and the supporting document (listed below) to the attending official for verification and processing.
  3. Pay the application fees
  4. You will then be issued with a receipt/acknowledgement slip and you will be notified on when you should re-visit the office to collect the resident card.

Required DocumentsEdit

ECOWAS Members

  • Certificate of residence (Head of District) + Certificate of residence (Head of district or village)
  • Attestation of medical examination: dating less than three (03) months, issued by a doctor from the Health Centre of the Republican Police located in Vêdoko in Cotonou
  • Extract from the criminal record of the country of origin or last residence: dating less than three (03) months
  • Proof of professional activities, study in Benin or membership of a professional or denominational order
  • Colour ID photos on a white background (04)
  • Photocopy of the entire passport or travel book as the case may be, this passport must be at least six (06) months valid
  • Costs of compiling the file (an amount equivalent to the fees in force on the date of the request: see costs)
  • Consular card (photocopy)

Outside ECOWAS

  • Certificate of residence (Head of District) + Certificate of residence (Head of district or village)
  • Attestation of medical examination: dating less than three (03) months, issued by a doctor from the Health Centre of the Republican Police located in Vêdoko in Cotonou
  • Extract from the criminal record of the country of origin or last residence: dating less than three (03) months
  • Proof of professional activities, study in Benin or membership of a professional or denominational order
  • Colour ID photos on a white background (04)
  • Photocopy of the entire passport or travel book as the case may be, this passport must be at least six (06) months valid
  • Costs of compiling the file (an amount equivalent to the fees in force on the date of the request: see costs)
  • Consular card (photocopy)
  • Quitus (for communities subject to it)
  • Repatriation deposit to be paid to the Treasury (except for nationals of countries that have concluded surety cancellation agreements with Benin.
  • Any other document that may be required by the authority.

EligibilityEdit

Any foreigner who meet the following criteria;

  • Be established in Benin or in the process of being established in Benin
  • Have sufficient means to take care of yourself or a guarantee of being taken care of
  • Employ a job or carry out a lawful activity generating income
  • Enjoy good morals
  • Not a minor (under the age of 18 years)

Need for the DocumentEdit

  • Any foreigner whose duration of stay in Benin exceeds three (03) months is required to obtain a residence permit, except minors under the age of eighteen (18) years and except in specific cases like diplomats and the like.
