Procedure

1. Submit a completed application to the Belize Companies and Corporate Affairs Registry Office.
2. When you submit your application you will be asked to present a valid identification. The Clerk might also ask you to present additional documents like a letter authorizing you to apply for the procedure on behalf of a corporation. You may use the contact information provided below to get in touch with the Registry Office to make sure that you have all the needed documents when you apply.
3. Pay the application fee.

Required Documents

• Identification Card: You may present your Social Security, Voters ID, or Belize Passport; or Permanent Residence
• Completed application form:
  • Form 1: Application for Registration by an individual (Sole Proprietor)
  • Form 2: Application for Registration by a Firm
  • Form 3: Application for registration by a corporation

Note: The Registrar may ask applicants to present additional documents it may think necessary.

Eligibility

• every firm having a place of business in Belize and carrying on business under a business name which does not consist of the true surnames of all partners who are individuals and the corporate names of all partners who are corporations without any addition other than the true christian names of individual partners or initials of such christian names;
• every individual having a place of business in Belize and carrying on business under a business name which does not consist of his true surname without any addition other than his true christian names or the initials thereof;
• every individual or firm having a place of business in Belize, who, or a member of which, has either before or after the commencement of the Business Name Act changed his name, except in the case of a woman in consequence of marriage,

Notes:

• Firm: an unincorporated body of two or more individuals, or one or more individuals and one or more corporations, or two or more corporations, who have entered into partnerships with one another with a view to carrying on business for profit.) (Partnership)
• Corporation: having a place of business in Belize and carrying on the business wholly or mainly as nominee or trustee of or for another person or other persons or another Corporation or acting as general agent for any foreign firm. (A foreign firm means any firm, individual, or corporation whose principal place of business is situate outside any Commonwealth country.)
• Foreigners will need to apply with a Belizean partner or someone with a Permanent Residence to be able to register a business name

Required Information

• the business name;
• general nature of the business;
• principal place of the business;
• For firms: the present christian name and surname, any former christian name or surname, the nationality, and if that nationality is not the nationality of origin, the nationality of origin, the usual residence, and the other business occupation, if any, of each of the individuals who are partners, and the corporate name and registered or principal office of every corporation which is a partner;
• Sole proprietorship: the present christian name and surname, any former christian name or surname, the nationality, and if that nationality is not the nationality of origin, the nationality of origin, the usual residence, and the other business occupation, if any, of such individual;
• For corporations: its corporate name and registered or principal office;
• Where a business is carried on under two or more business names, each of those business names shall be stated.
