ProcedureEdit

  1. The applicant should fill in a visa application form and submit an application fee along with all the required documents
  2. Applicants from some countries may need to make an appointment with their consulate or embassy in order to make their application.
  3. The applicant should visit the Belgium Visa Application Centre during the working hours and receive a token number.
  4. The applicant can then Track the application online
  5. Once the Visa is issued the applicant will be notified to collect their passport from the Visa Application Centre or avail the option of courier delivery.

Required DocumentsEdit

  • Two forms of visa application - with 3 clear and recent colour photographs.
  • Original admission letter of a Belgian higher educational institution recognized or subscribed by the public authorities mentioning Final Admission or provisional admission.
  • Original Educational Diplomas and original certificates by the Royal Embassy of Belgium.
  • A recent Police Character Certificate for the applicant older than 21 years (the certificate must cover the last 5 years). If the applicant has remained in various countries during this period, several Police Character Certificates must be produced.
  • Medical certificate issued by an accredited physician of the Belgian Embassy.
  • National passport + copy of the first pages. The validity of the passport must be minimum 1 year after the expiry of the visa.
  • Financial Cover: A certificate of grant of scholarship issued by a Belgian or European institution or the prove of payment for the 1st academic year in Belgium or an original sponsorship certificate for studies

  • Students from a European Union Member State or from a country in the European Economic Area (EEA) are not required to obtain a student visa in order to study in Belgium.
  • Before applying for a student visa for Belgium, you first need to be accepted onto a course at an accredited educational institution, and pay the registration fees.
  • If you are an international student, you will then need to contact your nearest Belgian embassy or consulate in your country.
  • The embassy will help you determine whether you need a student visa, and will guide you through the visa application.
  • All the information concerning Belgian visa applications can be found on the website of the Foreigners Department of the Federal Public Service (FPS) for Home Affairs, available to read in French, Dutch and English.
  • As an international student, youll need to apply for a national long-stay visa (D visa), which allows you to stay longer than 90 days in Belgium.
  • The Belgian consulate or embassy considers visa applications on a case-by-case basis and has the exclusive decision to accept or refuse your visa. You may appeal against this decision if you wish.

  • The study Visa is D visa has the same effects as a residence card with regard to free movement on the SCHENGEN territory.
  • Accordingly, you are authorized to travel to another SCHENGEN State for a total period not exceeding 3 months in a 6-month period, starting from the date of your first entry on to the SCHENGEN territory, always provided that you meet the entry conditions and have not been reported by the SCHENGEN State into whose territory you are traveling.
  • If you fail to meet the entry conditions, you may nevertheless be authorized to transit to the SCHENGEN State which issued the D visa.
