Where to Park


For vehicles registered abroad

Individuals living in Belgium with vehicles registered abroad must have the same vehicle registered locally within 6 months.

Only the categories of following persons can, subject to supplying all the documentary evidence, benefit from a parking card of 1 year:

  • category 1: the vehicle which a foreign professional person rents to a person for a maximal duration of 6 months, not renewable
  • category 2: every physical person who uses the vehicle for the exercise of his profession for a foreign owner to whom this person is bound by a contract of employment
  • category 3: the vehicle driven by an official who lives in Belgium and who works for an international institution in another member state of the European Union
  • category 4: the vehicle of which the owner is considered as a person temporarily absent (the fact of leaving the Belgian territory for a duration from 3 months to 1 year and for whom a declaration to the competent service of the municipality was introduced beforehand) and who has his parking in Belgium during no more than six months continuously

Required DocumentsEdit

  • ID card or a request form with the ID card of the main driver of the vehicle in case this one does not make the demand himself
  • registration certificate of the vehicle with the DIV (Road Traffic Direction)
  • certificate of the employer which proves the professional work on the territory of the City of Brussels and which mentions the address of the hospital where the staff member works
  • if more than 50 persons work for the hospital, the demand must be accompanied by a company transport plan


Additional requirements if the applicant is not the owner of the vehicle:

  • For a company vehicle:
    • the certificate of the company stipulating that the applicant has the use of it permanently
    • the statutes of the company or the extract of the Belgian Official Journal if the owner of the vehicle is a manager or an administrator of the company
    • if the company contracts a leasing, the leasing contract or a certificate proving the link between the leasing company and the company of the applicant
  • For a personal leasing vehicle:
    • leasing contract
  • For a third party vehicle:
    • a copy of the insurance policy on which it is mentioned that the applicant is the main driver of the vehicle


Note: if the applicant is exempted from registration in the Population register, he or she will have to supply the certificate of the service of the protocol of the SPF Foreign Affairs on which his or her name, first name, address and household appear.

Need for the DocumentEdit

The Hospital staff card allows its holders to park their vehicle only within the limits of the sector where the hospital is situated. The card is a virtual card: the control is done via license plate recognition.

This card cannot be used in places reserved for the local residents and for shared cars, neither in red or orange zone nor in the places for which a special road marking is of application and where there's no exception for this type of municipal parking card.
