Need for the DocumentEdit
- ”Certificate Of Origin” is mainly needed to check whether the goods being exported/imported are legal and whether such export or import is subject to duties.
- A certificate of origin is a document used in international trade. In a printed form or as an electronic document, it is completed by the exporter and certified by a recognized issuing body, attesting that the goods in a particular export shipment have been produced, manufactured or processed in a particular country. A "Certificate of Origin" is also called as "Form A“
- The “Cos” also constitutes a declaration by the exporter. Virtually every country in the world considers the origin of imported goods when determining what duty will be assessed on the goods or, in some cases, whether the goods may be legally imported at all.
Information which might helpEdit
- Under the Imports and Exports Regulations, there is a penalty for making a false declaration in respect of any certificate of origin, permit or certification.
- Exporters should consult with a Customs Broker or the designated certifying authority for correct classification of items and tariff numbers before completing the forms. It is also very important to go through the explanatory notes printed at the back of each form or in the department manual.

Please explain what are other uses of obtaining this document/certificate. e.g. Birth Certificate can be used as proof of identity.
