Step 1 Obtain Learner’s Permit
- Visit your nearest licensing authority to make an application. A Learner's Permit is essential for obtaining a Permanent License.
- You will need to apply in the prescribed format to the Licensing Authority along with your
- passport-sized photographs,
- proof of your age and residence,
- declaration of medical fitness
- The required fee of $80.
- The application document is provided by the licensing authority.
Step 2 Take the regulations Test
- After verification of your documents, you will have to go through the Regulations Test. A handbook of traffic rules, signs and regulations is provided with the application form. On passing the Regulations Test, you will be issued a Learner's Permit. If you fail the test, you will be given a chance to take the test again.
- A fee of $30.00 is charged or the regulation test.
- The leaners permit is issued immediately upon passing the regulation test.

- Citizens or residents of Barbados
- Minimum age: 16 years old for a temporary licence. ( The minor's parents or guardian must give their consent)
- If you are at least 18 years of age you may apply for a permanent license to drive a private motor vehicle.
- Must not be suffering from any such disease or physical disability which may result to you causing a road accident while driving.

Need for the DocumentEdit
- The leaners driver license is issued as an authority to allow a person to drive a motor vehicle while undergoing training on a road in Barbados.
- No person will be allowed to drive a motor vehicle on road in Barbados unless he is the holder of a valid driving license or a learners permit endorsed in respect of that class of vehicle.
- Any person training to drive a motor vehicle on a road is required by law to carry his/her learner driver license or learners permit, and on being so required by a police officer, produce it for examination.
- The leaner driver licence shows compliance with Barbados traffic laws regarding driving.

- A learner’s driver license is an official document certifying that the holder is training to drive a motor vehicle or vehicles.
- Learning how to drive:
- Once you obtain a learner's permit, you may now start practicing how to drive. Remember that you must be accompanied at all times by a licensed driver who has three years or more experience of driving the class of vehicle which the learner is driving and must display L signs conspicuously placed on the back and front of the vehicle. The L sign must not be displayed while the learner is not driving the vehicle.

- The driving test will usually be taken within three months from the time the learner's permit was issued. Upon passing the driving test, you may obtain a license by applying on the prescribed form and paying the relevant licence fee.

- A Driving License is an official document certifying that the holder is suitably qualified to drive a motor vehicle or vehicles. Under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, no person can drive a motor vehicle in any public place unless he holds a valid Driving License or learners permit issued to him, authorizing him to drive a vehicle of that particular category.
- It is illegal to drive without wearing a seat belt and any children under the age of 5 must be in a car seat.
- Drink driving is an offence although having unopened alcohol in the vehicle is not.
- The speed limit is 60 kilometers or 37 mph per hour although it depends which roads you are using as the limit varies. The limits are usually clearly displayed on road signs.
