Bahamas - Renew Vehicle Registration

Following is a procedure on how to renew a motor vehicle registration with expired license discs or license discs approaching expiration.

Deadline for renewal: Vehicle and Inspection expire on the last day of the vehicle owner's birth month.

Required Information

A list which displays the kind of information which is required to complete the procedure.
1. Date of Birth.
2. City or County of Birth.


  1. Have your vehicle inspected in any of the Road Traffic Department Inspection areas.
  2. Present, a valid Driver’s licence, a valid Certificate of Insurance and the Windshield Licence Disc to the Road Traffic Department Inspector.
  3. Once the vehicle have been inspected and the documents submitted have been validated, a Certificate of Fitness for the vehicle will be issued to you by the Inspector.
  4. Go to the Road Traffic Department registration counter and submit your Driver’s licence, valid Certificate of Insurance, Inspection Pass Certificate and the Licence Disc.
  5. The clerk will verifiy submitted documents, and once everything is in order the renewed Licence Disc will be issued to you.
  6. Submit Licence Disc and the Certificate of Insurance to the Cashier.
  7. Pay the required fee to the Cashier to validate the Inspection Pass Certificate and the Motor Vehicle Registration.
  8. After you have paid all required fees, the Cashier will issue the validated motor vehicle Licence Disc and Inspection Certificate to you.

Required Documents

  • Completed Road Traffic Information form: The form is available at the Road Traffic Department
  • Supporting Documents:
    • Valid Insurance Certificate.
    • The copy of the Windshield Licence Disc.
    • Valid Bahamian Driver’s licence.


Registration fees:

  • Group A - BS$160 – vehicle less than 5,000lbs
  • Group B - BS$560 – vehicle between 5,001lbs and 15,000lbs
  • Group C - BS$760 – vehicles over 15,000lbs

Inspection fee: BS$35

Note: The Department may ask you to pay additional fees.


Vehicle and Inspection expire on the last day of the vehicle owner's birth month.

It's possible for The Road Traffic Department to complete the processing of your application for renewal within the same day, provided all the required documents are submitted.
