ProcedureEdit

Apply In-Person

  1. Bahamian citizens who want to apply for a Government Guaranteed Loan, must sign an agreement with the seller to buy a house or have a house built on their behalf by an engineer or architect.
  2. Visit the following link for contact Details: Contact link.
  3. Thereafter, by arranging loans through an approved lender, a government-guaranteed loan can be pursued.
  4. The lending institution must then submit an application to the Minister of Housing for an undertaking to insure the loan after it has been accepted. The lending institution must fill out and submit an Application to Loan MI-1 form as well as a Request for Undertaking to Insure MI-2 form.
  5. The MI3 Form will then be filled by the Department of Housing and submitted to the lending institution.
  6. Following the completion of the mortgage, the lending institution must apply on behalf of the homeowner for a mortgage insurance coverage. The lending institution completes the Application for Mortgage Insurance Policy MI-8 form and submits it to the Department of Housing along with the corresponding fee.
  7. The Mortgage Insurance Policy (MI-9 form) is then completed and returned to the lending institution by the Minister.
  8. The contents of this form can't be changed without the Minister of Housing's consent. As a result, the Mortgage Insurance Policy is in effect for the whole term of the loan.
  9. The loan will be processed within two to three weeks.
