Bahamas - Apply for Purchase a Residential Government Lot
ProcedureEdit
Apply In-Person
- The Applicant has to submit an application form to the Department of Housing.
- Visit the following link for Contact Details Link
- The Applicant can collect the Form from the Department of Housing.
- Family Island residents may collect an application from the Local Administrator’s Office. Grand Bahama and Abaco residents may collect applications from the Department of Housing Office on those islands
- The Applicant can download the form from the following Form Link.
- Applicants in New Providence, Grand Bahama, and Abaco must complete Application for Land form in person and submit it to the relevant office, along with all supporting documents.
- All other family islands applicants must submit their applications to the Family Island Administrator's Office, which will forward them to New Providence for processing.
- The application will be reviewed by the Department of Housing, and the applicant will get an acknowledgement letter.
- Land in The Bahamas is frequently oversubscribed due to the great demand for housing; there are more applications than there are available plots of land. In this instance, applicants will receive a letter informing them of the backlog of applications.
- If the Applicant meets the requirement and a lot becomes available, the Department of Housing will contact the applicant by phone to inform of the availability. A letter of offer is also issued to the applicant.
- The letter of offer states the location, cost of the property, deposit required and payment deadline.
- The Department of Housing will issue a rescission letter and give the property to another Applicant on the list if the applicant does not pay by the statutory time or requests an extension.
