ProcedureEdit

Apply In-Person

  1. The Applicant has to submit an application form to the Department of Housing.
  2. Visit the following link for Contact Details Link
  3. The Applicant can collect the Form from the Department of Housing.
  4. Family Island residents may collect an application from the Local Administrator’s Office.  Grand Bahama and Abaco residents may collect applications from the Department of Housing Office on those islands
  5. The Applicant can download the form from the following Form Link.
  6. Applicants in New Providence, Grand Bahama, and Abaco must complete Application for Land form in person and submit it to the relevant office, along with all supporting documents.
  7. All other family islands applicants must submit their applications to the Family Island Administrator's Office, which will forward them to New Providence for processing.
  8. The application will be reviewed by the Department of Housing, and the applicant will get an acknowledgement letter.
  9. Land in The Bahamas is frequently oversubscribed due to the great demand for housing; there are more applications than there are available plots of land. In this instance, applicants will receive a letter informing them of the backlog of applications.
  10. If the Applicant meets the requirement and a lot becomes available, the Department of Housing will contact the applicant by phone to inform of the availability.  A letter of offer is also issued to the applicant.
  11. The letter of offer states the location, cost of the property, deposit required and payment deadline.
  12. The Department of Housing will issue a rescission letter and give the property to another Applicant on the list if the applicant does not pay by the statutory time or requests an extension.
