Procedure

Apply In-Person

1. To apply for Commando Training, the applicant must approach the Royal Bahamas Defence Force Headquarters (RBDF) Contact Link
2. Visit the office and get an application form for registering or download the form from the RBDF website Link
3. Complete the application form with appropriate information under relevant sections.
4. After filling the application form, make sure to attach all the documents listed in the “Required documents” section of this page.
5. Then, submit it in person to the relevant authority at the office.
6. The application along with the attached documents will be forwarded for verifications.
7. Once all the internal processes are over, the applicants will be notified with the further instructions regarding the registration.

Required Documents

Original Documents Required:

• Two (2) completed RBDF application forms
• Birth Certificate
• First three (3) pages of current passport or first two (2) pages of E-passport
• National Insurance Card
• High school diploma
• Transcript (along with evaluation letter from the Ministry of Education)
• Two (2) character references
• Three (3) passport photos

Note:
Original documents must accompany application forms at the time of submission.

Eligibility

• Bahamian citizen between the ages of 18 and 25 years
• Minimum of five (5) Bahamas Junior Certificates (BJCs), grades C and above inclusive of Math and English (mandatory). Higher levels of qualifications are accepted which may include BGCSE certificates and Academic Degrees.
• Police Record (without criminal offence)

Instructions

To ensure that Application Forms are processed, the following must be done:

• Two Application forms are to be completed
• Three passport size photos are to be enclosed
• Original Documents for Academic and Professional qualifications are to be enclosed
• A current Police Record is to be enclosed
• An original Birth Certificate or Affidavit is to be enclosed (Baptismal certificates or passports are not suitable).
• The original documents will be returned to the applicant.

Need for the Document

Selected Commando Squadron marines receive training in a number of professional military subjects in areas such as Counter Terrorism, Amphibious Operations, Demolition and Explosives Identification and Recognition, Skill at Arms, Communications, and Field Craft. They also participate in the marine phase of Trade Winds, an annual exercise that includes forces from the Caribbean, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
