A passport is a document issued by the government. It certifies the identity and nationality of the holder, to be used for travel abroad. It contains informations about the holder; like name, gender, date and place of birth.
In case your passport was lost or stolen, you can request to be issued a new one.
Information which might helpEdit
Please note that not all states accept an emergency passport or to establish further conditions ( eg United States since 1 July 2009, Turkey). information about it is available on the website of the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs.
Starting 1 July 2009 entering the United States with an Austrian emergency passport under the "Visa Waiver Program" is no longer possible.
The entry with an emergency passport is only in connection with a visa to the U.S. diplomatic mission-possible. Here are observed: the agreement of a interview appointment at the U.S. representative authority, the cost of currently about 105 euros and the processing time of at least two business days.
Due to the processing time for a U.S. visa the possibility of issuing a one-day domestic express passport should be considered.
Further information on the one-day Express Pass can be found in the Information Sheet.
The cited provisions apply even if the actual destination is not USA , but a U.S. airport for onward travel (transit) must be used.
Other uses of the Document/CertificateEdit
Please explain what are other uses of obtaining this document/certificate. e.g. Birth Certificate can be used as proof of identity.
