1.) Registration may be done personally or by mail sign up. The application can also be delivered by a messenger / a messenger. Registration by fax or e-mail are currently legally impossible.

Minors will only be accepted by the nursing or guardians, persons with mental illness within the sphere of a Sachwalterin / a custodian of this, if these persons are not available, the Unterkunftgeberin / the accommodation provider.


2.) The registration form is important for this is where the authorities will get information that will be entered in their database. You can request for a copy of the form from the registration office, it is also available in some tobacconists or you can just simply download the form.

The form must be completed fully and legibly. Here are some guidelines filling in the form:

  • Religion: This section can be completed only after the Unterkunftgeberin / accommodation provider has signed the registration form. You can also remain blank.
  • Central register number [ZMR-Zahl]: This number must be declared as far as it is known. Central register numbers are twelve-figure numbers arbitrarily allocated by the system and are used for identification by the authorities.
  • Signature of Reporting Person / of the declarant: So the accuracy of the reported data is confirmed.
  • Signature of Unterkunftgeberin / property of the encoder

Unterkunftgeberin / accommodation provider is the person who actually received the Unterkunftnehmerin / the property buyer property, say for example:

  • the owner / owners of a house or a condo itself, the roommate / the roommate ( eg, partner / partner, family members) or the main tenant / the main tenant,
  • the main tenant / roommate of the main tenants of / the roommate or lodger / the lodger
  • the lodger / tenant of the roommate / the roommate.

A private residence registration form must be filled out for each person.


3.) You will receive written confirmation that your registration is processed.

  • Public documents that include last name and first name, last name before the first marriage, date of birth, place of birth and citizenship of the person taking up the accommodation (e.g. passport and birth certificate [Geburtsurkunde])
  • Optional, documentary proof of academic degrees [Urkundlicher Nachweis akademischer Grade]
  • For people taking up accommodation without Austrian citizenship (foreigners):
    • Travel document (e.g. passport)
  • For registration of a newborn baby (at the registration authority):
    • Birth certificate of the child

EligibilityEdit

Registration is necessary for the following cases:

  • First-time reference of an accommodation in Austria
  • Moving in Austria (there is a new principal residence based)
  • Justification of another residence (the principal residence remains the same)


When there is a new principal residence, application for registration by a competent authority can be done simultaneously with the cancellation or change of registration of the old one.

The residence registration of a newborn can also be done simultaneously with the display of the birth registry office place (if previously and it usually is in the hospital)when the registration form is filled out. In this case no application at the Registry Office is required.

Domestically made ??changes of name, marital status, sex, or nationality are entered directly from the civil status or citizenship evidence points in the Central Register, ie there is no separate registration required.

Registering and de-registering is very important because although no accommodation is established or the existing accommodation is not given up, it is still considered an administrative offence which can result in a fine of up to 726 Euro. Should the offence be repeated, the fine can be up to 2,180 Euro.

Registration must be done within three days after moving in to the property.

For the registration of a principal residence or other residence, the registration authority responsible for the new residence:

  • The Town Hall or Municipal Offices
  • In statutory cities - the City Council
  • In Vienna - the Municipal District Office

Staying in an apartment in Austria requires reporting to a competent registration authority, a requirement imposed by the state.

Property acquisition in an accommodation establishment must also be reported anyway and will take the form of leaf guests in the accommodation.

Homeless people have the opportunity may apply to obtain principal residence by getting confirmation from the registration authority stating that they:

  • demonstrate that they have the center of their life relationships within that community for at least a month and
  • within the municipality may designate a place that they visit regularly (contact points, such as personal contact, social services, homeless facilities).


Exceptions to the reporting requirement

Persons who have been reported elsewhere in Austria are exempt from the reporting requirement if they are:

  • in an apartment not more than two months free property participates ( eg holiday with grandparents),
  • included as Pfleglinge in a hospital,
  • minors are housed in kids, student, students, youth or sports shelters,
  • members of the Armed Forces, the Federal Police, Customs or prison guard, or under an Emergency Services in a community property ( eg housed barracks).

Note:Regardless of whether there is already a message in Austria or not, for example, people are exempt from the reporting requirement, where accommodation is not granted for more than three days in an apartment.

After the E-Government Act, the reporting authority is required to enter this civil status certificates and citizenship certificates in the default document register. This already verdateten documents must not be submitted in the original rule, in (electronic) Official paths.


EU - / EEA citizens / EU - / EEA citizens and their family members / relatives which, for more than three months in Austria are and want to settle down, have in addition a registration certificate request.
