- To Apply for a Disability Certificate, the applicant has to approach the respective Department of Social Service link or Service Australia link
NOTE: Enter the postcode and click the “Locate” button to find the nearest office.
- An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer.
- The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
- Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
- Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
- There is no fee for a Disability certificate.
- After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
- All applications are processed within a reasonable time, having regard to the particular circumstances of each application, including the completeness of information and documents submitted to the authority by the applicant.
- The authority may seek additional information from an applicant if this is necessary to assess the application. The authority does not need to deal further with an application until the applicant has provided this additional information.
- Once the process is completed, the applicant gets a call from the office regarding the application.
- The applicant may be asked to attend medical assessments or interviews to further evaluate your disability. Be prepared to attend these appointments if necessary.
- Upon approval, the applicant will receive a certificate from the office.
- This entire process can be completed within 15 - 20 days or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.

EligibilityEdit
To be eligible for disability in Australia, the applicant must meet both non-medical and medical rules.
Non-medical rules
- The applicant must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident.
- The applicant must be aged 16 or over.
- The applicant must be residing in Australia.
- The applicant must have limited income and assets.
Medical rules
- The applicant must have a physical, intellectual, or psychiatric impairment that is likely to persist for at least two years.
- The impairment must be diagnosed, reasonably treated, and stabilized.
- The impairment must result in an impairment rating of 20 points or more under the Impairment Tables.
- The impairment must stop you from working at least 15 hours a week in full-time employment.
