Apply in Person

1. To apply for Fitness certificate in Assam the applicant has to approach the RTO office to which his area belongs to. Please follow our “Office Locations & Contacts” section of this page to get details of the RTO offices.
   
2. Make sure you have completed application form CFA.
   
3. Also make sure you have all the necessary documents to process the application
   
4. Application forms can also be obtained from the appropriate RTO offices that should be completed and presented with appropriate fees.
   
5. Present the completed application forms along with documents in one of the counter and pay the appropriate fee where the officials would start processing your application.
   
6. Pencil tracing of engine chassis number is the activity to record the chassis number for issue of certificate for the said vehicle holding this chassis number
   
7. Authorities will inspect the vehicle and check for vehicle correctness to issue vehicle fitness certificate
   
   

Apply Online - Assam Apply Fitness Certificate (FC) for Transport Vehicle Online with Images

1. To apply for vehicle fitness certificate (FC), the applicant has to visit the official portal of the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways: Link to Portal
2. In the homepage, please scroll down to “Informational Services” and click on the “more” button in the “Citizen Guide” tab.
3. The applicant will be taken to the “Manual” page where all the available services will be listed.
4. Please click on the name of the required service and click on “Step by Step procedure” from the drop down menu.
5. The applicant will be taken to a new PDF page where the process for applying will be explained clearly.
6. Please follow the steps to complete the application.

Eligibility

• Vehicle should be produced for inspection
  
• You should be the owner of the vehicle

Fees

• Fees for permit vary with type of vehicle.

Validity

• In case of non-transport vehicles like two wheelers and cars, it is valid for 15 years from the date of first registration and it is renewed after every five subsequent years.
  
• In case of transport vehicles like goods and passenger carriers, it is valid till certificate of fitness is valid.

Need for the Document

• All the vehicles need to be registered as per the Motor Vehicle Act,1988 .
  
• Vehicle registration's purpose is to establish clear ownership and to tax motorist or vehicle owners. It is a requirement by the state.
  
• Fitness certificate for vehicle is issued by RTO authorities and is required for renewal of registration and permit
  
• It is an offense to drive the vehicle without vehicle fitness certificate
