Antigua and Barbuda - Transfer Ownership of a Vehicle
ProcedureEdit
- The registered owner and the new owner must submit an application in writing signed by both of them to Office of the Commissioner of Inland Revenue giving the name and address of the new owner and the date of change of possession.
- Submit the completed application together with the vehicle's Certificate of Registration.
- Pay the registration fee.
- After payment of all the prescribed fees the Commissioner of Inland Revenue will amend the Register of motor vehicles and the licence, it will not be necessary to issue a new licence.
The Commissioner of Inland Revenue will change the name of the registered owner to that of the new owner in the Register of Motor Vehicles. The Commissioner will include the date of substitution along with his initial in the books, and from such date the new owner shall for all purposes be deemed to be the registered owner of the motor vehicle or trailer.

For transfer of ownership of a motor vehicle or trailer for reasons other than death: Registered owner and the new owner
Changing the name of the owner in the Register of Motor Vehicle and Certificate of Registration will be approved by the Commissioner:
- Provided that the ownership of any motor vehicle or trailer is changed as a result of any legal or judicial process, such application may be made by the new owner alone.
- In the case of the death of the registered owner the legal personal representative of the deceased in Antigua and Barbuda shall be deemed to be the registered owner for the purposes of such transfer and, in the absence of any legal personal representative in Antigua and Barbuda, the person into whose possession the motor vehicle or trailer lawfully comes shall, for the purposes of such transfer, be deemed to be the registered owner:
- Provided that such personal representative or other person as aforesaid shall notify the Commissioner of Inland Revenue of the death of the registered owner within one month of the happening of such event.
