Procedure

1.The alien or stateless person who comes into the country in order to obtain asylum in time of entry at the border post the requesting asylum authority migration or, failing that, outside the border post, to any authority police, and may do so in writing or verbally, in which case the plowed its self

2.The application for asylum can be submitted by a foreign citizen or stateless person to the immigration authority, or any police authority, within eight days,

• if there are valid reasons for your presentation, when verification of the facts upon which it grounds occur after its entry into national territory, or as soon as the person becomes aware of them.

3.Any police authority who receives a request for asylum shall, within 48 hours, forward it to the local office of the immigration authority, which shall immediately notify the asylum seeker to testify within 8 days

4.The immigration authority notifies an applicant to provide statements showing the date, time, location of the interview and inform the applicant about his/her rights and duties

5.After the interview, the immigration authority collects biometric data, taking pictures and shall issue the asylum seeker a declaration of submission of asylum application, according to the model approved by the Minister of Interior

6.After the interview and issuance of an attestation the asylum application, the immigration authority shall refer the applicant to the closest Welcome Centre Refugees and Asylum Seekers-FACE, to await the final decision

Eligibility

Anyone persecuted or seriously threatened with persecution in his/her home country as a consequence of activity performed in the State of nationality or residence.

The service is free

Validity

The applicant is allowed to remain temporarily in national territory for a period of 60 days from the date of submission, renewable for periods of 30 days until the final decision of the application

Processing Time

The period of investigation of the case is 30 days from the date of the interview.
The Interior Minister decides whether to grant or refuse asylum within 15 days from the date of receipt of the case. .

This right to temporary stay does not entitle an applicant the authorization of residence, or the exercise of gainful activity or free movement outside the Shelter for Refugees and Asylum Seekers

• Indication of previous asylum applications
• Reporting of circumstances or facts underlying the request for asylum and indicating the elements of proof required .

Any foreign citizen or stateless person is guaranteed the right to asylum from persecution for political reasons or severe threats as a result of his/her activity in favor of democracy, national independence, peace between peoples, freedom and rights of the people, in accordance with existing laws and instruments international law relating to refugees that Angola joined or will join

• Asylum may be refused where the request is manifestly unfounded or whenever the grant represents a danger or threat to established public policy and internal or external security of the Angolan state
