Apply In-Person:
- To apply for Residential Building Contractor License in person, the applicant has to visit the Residential Protection Program in Municipal Affairs office.
- Address and contact details of the office can be found in the following Contact link
- Visit the office and obtain an application form for Residential Building Contractor License from the relevant department.
- Make sure that all the documents in the “Required Documents” section of this page are available.
- Complete the application as per convenience, attest it with signature and attach the required documents with the application form.
- Then, submit the application package to the relevant authority at the office. The applicant has to pay 600 dollars as license fees as cash or any of the available payment modes.
- Upon receipt of the application and all the required information, the Department will proceed to review and assess the submitted information.
- Within two business weeks, on completion of the review, the office will inform the applicant through phone number or email to collect the License.

- To apply for Residential Building Contractor License online, the applicant has to visit the following Apply online
- Before that, the applicant has to create a new builder account in the New Home Buyer Protection System by visiting the following Account Request Form
- Visit the link and select an applicable option to register. Then, complete the Request form by following the on-screen instructions and clicking applicable button.
- New account requests will be processed within 5 business days and the applicant can log in into the MA (Municipal Affairs) account once after the user details has been provided, by visiting the link provided in the first point.
- After logging in, the applicant should click “Launch” button and click “Builder profile” button.
- Then, the applicant should ensure that the builder profile is up-to-date and aligns with the information in the Alberta Corporate Registry.
- Once checked, the applicant has to access the application form for license by clicking the “Licensing” option.
- Online application form for the Residential Building Contractor License will be opened. Complete it with all the required details under respective sections.
- Also, pay 600 dollars as license fees by following the on-screen instructions in the payment page and submit the application by clicking the applicable button.
- Upon receipt of the application and all the required information, the Department will proceed to review and assess the submitted information.
- Within two business weeks, on completion of the review, the office will inform the applicant through phone number or email to collect the License.

- The applicant must not have contravened the New Home Buyer Protection Act.

- Builder licence applications are processed within 14 business days. However, it could be longer if a builder fails to provide current and complete information.
- Ensure that the builder profile is up-to-date and aligns with the information in the Alberta Corporate Registry.
- The applicants should complete the application form with all the mandatory details provided with absolute legibility.
- The applicants are advised to attach all the required documents without any insufficiency, to avoid rejections and delay in processing.
- The applicants can also contact the office for obtaining the list of the required documents, in case they have doubts.
