ProcedureEdit
- To obtain an ID card, you must apply at any of our registry agent offices.
- You must also provide acceptable identification to verify your identity and documents to prove Alberta residency.
- The only exemption to Alberta residency is for students that are residents of another jurisdiction but attending an Alberta accredited institution full-time. These individuals may request an ID card and must present a letter from the institution verifying full-time student status.

Identification and Residency DocumentsEdit
- Alberta operator's license or identification card
- Photo driver's license (from another jurisdiction)
- Valid Canadian Passport
- NEXUX Card
- Canadian Armed Forces Identification Card
- Secure Certificate of Indian Status (SCIS) Card (Federally issued)
- Municipal, Provincial or Federal Police Force Identification.
- Valid foreign Passport with appropriate Immigration documents
- Permanent Resident Card.
- Mtis Nations of Alberta Card (new version).
- Mtis ID number is displayed on the face of the card.
- The card contains water mark features.
Support DocumentsEdit
- Birth or Marriage Certificate (original or certified)
- Utility statements, such as cable, telephone, gas, electricity
- Work Visa, Student Visa, Permanent Resident Card
- Canada Citizenship Certificate (issued after February 1, 2012)
- Income tax receipts
- Property tax bill
- Insurance policy documents (life, auto, residential, etc.)
- Government assistance document(s) (e.g. Income Support document.cheque, etc)

EligibilityEdit
- The minimum age to obtain an ID card is 12 years old.
- Applicants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to provide consent.

Need for the DocumentEdit
An Alberta photo identification card (ID card) is available to Alberta residents who do not or cannot hold a valid Alberta operator's license. The ID card is clearly marked for identification purposes only and does not entitle the person to operate a motor vehicle under any circumstances.
