Apply In-Person:

  1. To apply for Farm Fuel Tax Exemption Certificate in person, the applicant has to visit the office of the Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Economic Development.

  3. The applicant has to visit the office and obtain the application form for Farm Fuel Tax Exemption Certificate, from the relevant department or click here to download Application form
  4. While visiting the office, the applicants should carry the documents listed in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  5. The applicant has to complete the application with required details in respective fields under each section.
  6. After that, the applicant should attach the required documents with the completed form and submit it to the relevant official with the required documents.
  7. Then, the applicant should pay the required fees for the process through any of the available payment modes. The fees details can be obtained from the office.
  8. Then, the submitted application and attached documents will be assessed and verified.
  9. Upon completion of the assessment and verification, the applicant will be intimated through phone or email to collect the approved Farm Fuel Tax Certificate.

EligibilityEdit

  • Any Farm producer in Alberta, that wishes to get exemption from the Farm Fuel Tax, can apply.
  • They must be actively and directly farming by controlling farming assets and making the day-to-day management decisions.
  • They must have annual farm commodity production worth at least $10,000 or $5,000 to $9,999 if the only other significant sources of income are Canada Pension Plan or Old Age Security.

  • Random audits will be conducted to ensure that eligibility is maintained and farmers holding valid registration numbers should notify the AFFB Program administration office if their operation changes and/or they are no longer eligible for the benefit.
  • The application form can be completed online as well as offline.

  • The Alberta Farm Fuel Benefit (AFFB) Program allows eligible producers to receive a 9-cent-per-litre provincial fuel tax exemption on the purchase of dyed gasoline and diesel.
  • Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Economic Development (AFRED) issues an AFFB Program registration number to qualified applicants.
  • This registration number is the approval number for the Alberta Farm Fuel Tax Exemption Certificate (AFFTEC) and gives licensed bulk fuel providers the authorization to sell marked fuel at the discounted price.
