Albania - Obtain a Police Clearance Certificate (Certificate of the Judicial status, Vertetim i Gjendjes Gjyqesore)

Introduction

A police certificate is an official document issued by police or government agency of a country to enumerate any criminal records that the applicant may or may not have. Criminal records may include arrest, conviction, and possibly criminal proceedings.

The Albanian police clearance ‘Certificate of the Judicial status’ (Vertetim i Gjendjes Gjyqesore) consists of a criminal court certificate from the Ministry of Justice concerning any convictions.

Eligibility

Residents and non-residents

Apply to the Judicial Status Office Abdi Toptani, Prane Torre Drini, Tirana ALBANIA

Provide: completed application form (signed by you), and a copy of an ID document (birth certificate, family certificate or ID card). The application form is available from local post offices in Albania (or through any relative or friend if you are not in Albania).

Instructions

You need to provide a police certificate when applying for permanent residence in Albania

Persons applying for the Police Clearance Certificate are required to submit a certificate from a public agency (embassy, immigration bureau, etc.) representing the country (or territory, etc.) of their destination.

Those who can apply for the Police Clearance Certificate must:

  • have currently registered their residence in Albania; or
  • had registered their last residence in Albania, and their registration has expired.

Applicants must be fingerprinted. All applicants are required to come in person.

  • Previous Names – Maiden Name, Aliases

  • Current Residential Address

Procedure

Currently, to obtain a criminal document from the District Attorney's office concerning pending and final criminal and civil cases, one needs to go to the District Attorney's office in the district of their residence, present an ID and pay the necessary fee.

To obtain a document from the District Court concerning any active court cases, one needs to go to the District Court office in one's district of their residence, present and ID and pay the necessary fee.

To obtain a criminal court certificate from the Office of Judicial Status, one needs to go to the Office of Judicial Status in Tirana from Monday through Friday at 8:00 a.m., present an ID and pay the necessary fee.

Applicants should apply for a Deshimi at the local Office of Juridical State or at:

Other uses of the Document/Certificate

A ‘Police Clearance Certificate’ is a document issued by the District Superintendent of Police to an applicant, which certifies the following:

  • That the applicant is a citizen of Albania
  • That the applicant is indeed the person whose photograph has been affixed on the PCC application form.
  • That the applicant has not been involved in any criminal case and that there is no criminal case pending against him /her in the court of law as per district police records.
  • That the applicant has not come to any adverse notice, which would render him/her ineligible for the grant of visa/immigration

A PCC is needed by all Indian citizens who apply for a visa for visiting/ emigrating to a foreign country. The PCC has to be produced before the concerned embassy/consulate alongwith the valid passport and other necessary documents. The PCC may also be needed by Albanian citizens living/working abroad who wish to apply for foreign citizenship or for permanent resident status in a foreign country.

NOTE: After applying for the certificate at the Albanian Embassy or Consulate in a foreign country, your application is unacceptable in Albania.
