Alabama - Police Clearance Certificate (Criminal History Record)

To obtain Police Clearance Certificate (Criminal History Record) in Alabama, the applicant has to complete the following steps and send it by mail to FBI.
STEP 1: Complete the Applicant Information Form
- The applicant has to download and complete the application form given in the following link
- If the request is for a couple, family, etc., each person must complete and sign a form.
- Include a complete mailing address. Please provide the applicant’s telephone number and e-mail address, if available.
- The results will be provided on standard white paper and returned to the applicant by First-Class Mail via the U.S. Postal Service.
- Self-addressed envelopes will not be accepted. This includes pre-paid Priority Mail, FedEx account numbers, United Parcel Service, etc., foreign postage coupons, and requests to forward correspondence to the Department of State for the apostille process.
STEP 2: Obtain a Set of Fingerprints
- The applicant must download standard fingerprint form (FD-1164) link and place their fingerprints which are commonly used for applicant or law enforcement purposes.
- The applicant must provide a current fingerprint card. Previously processed cards or copies will not be accepted.
- The applicant’s name and date of birth must be provided on the fingerprint card.
- The applicant must include rolled impressions of all 10 fingerprints and impressions of all 10 fingerprints taken at the same time (these are sometimes referred to as plain or flat impressions).
- Note:
- The FBI recommends that red or purple ink not be used for fingerprinting.
- Fingerprints taken with ink or via live scan are acceptable. If the applicant’s fingerprints are taken via a live scan device, a hard copy must be generated so the fingerprint card can be mailed to the FBI.
- To ensure the most legible prints possible, refer to the Recording Legible Fingerprints page link.
- If fingerprints are not legible, the fingerprint card will be rejected. This could cause delays in processing and could also result in additional fees.
STEP 3: Submit Payment
- To obtain a Police Clearance Certificate is $18 U.S. dollars to the treasury of United States.
- If the applicant wishes to pay the fee via credit card, the applicant must complete the credit card form link
- The applicant can also make the payment via money order or by certified check.
- Note:
- Cash, personal checks, or business checks WILL NOT be accepted and sending any of these will delay processing of your request.
- Payment must be for the exact amount.
- If the request is for a couple, family, etc., include $18 for each person.
STEP 4: Review
- Review the Identity History Summary Request Checklist to ensure that the applicant included everything needed to process the request. link
STEP 5: Mail the Required Items Listed Above
Mail the required items listed above—signed applicant information form, fingerprint card, and payment of $18 U.S. dollars per person—to the following address:

- An applicant with a valid passport and valid address proof.
- For those who resided more than 6 months in the USA.
- The applicant must be 16 years of age. For minors, apply as per authority advice.
- Applicants who require residential status, employment, or long-term visa or for immigration to a foreign nation.

ValidityEdit
All Police Clearance Certificates are valid for one year from the date of its issue and they must be valid on the day the applicant’s visa is issued.
