- To Obtain Vessel Bridge-to-Bridge Radio-telephony Certificate, the applicant has to mail the completed application to U.S Federal Communication Commission link
- The applicant has to download the form from the following link
- The applicant has to enter all the details in the application form.
- Make sure that the applicant has to attach all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
- Mail all the documents with the completed form to the Federal Communication Commission. The mailing address is given in “Office Locations & Contacts section” of this page.
- The fee for this procedure has to be paid as per the authority request.
- Once the verification process is done by the federal agency will contact the applicant regarding the inspection of the Radio Telephone in the vessel.
- The commission will use the FCC – Licensed technicians to conduct the ship inspection, and determine the radio installation is in compliance with requirement of the communication act.
- After successful completion of inspection, the authority will issue the radio-telephony certificate.
- The processing time of this procedure completes within a month.

Need for the DocumentEdit
- If vessel is larger than 100 gross tons or is more than 65 feet (20 meters) in length, it must also meet the requirements of the Bridge-to-Bridge Act. (Sections 80.1101 through 80.1023). The VHF radiotelephone must have operating capability on Channels 13 (156.650 MHz) and 22A (157.100 MHz).

- Vessels carrying a bridge-to-bridge radio installation should have that installation inspected concurrently with the inspection of the other compulsory equipment. If deficiencies are discovered in the bridge-to-bridge installation and cannot be corrected immediately, the FCC inspector should note pertinent facts in the radio log. Since the bridge-to-bridge radio is also a Coast Guard requirement, the inspector should bring noted deficiencies to the attention of his local Coast Guard Sector Office.

- Each vessel must carry a certificate with a valid endorsement while subject to the Bridge-to-Bridge Act. All other bridge-to-bridge stations will be inspected from time to time.
- An inspection of the bridge-to-bridge station on a Great Lakes Agreement vessel must normally be made at the same time as the Great Lakes Agreement inspection is conducted by a technician holding one of the following: A General Radiotelephone Operator License, a GMDSS Radio Maintainer's License, a Radiotelegraph Operator License, a Second-Class Radiotelegraph Operator's Certificate, or a First-Class Radiotelegraph Operator's Certificate. Additionally, the technician must not be the vessel's owner, operator, master, or an employee of any of them.
