Apply By Mail
- To Obtain Cargo Ship Safety Radio Certificate, the applicant has to mail the completed application to U.S Federal Communication Commission link
- The applicant has to download the form from the following link
- The applicant has to enter all the details in the application form.
- Make sure that the applicant has to attach all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
- Mail all the documents with the completed form to the Federal Communication Commission. The mailing address is given in “Office Locations & Contacts section” of this page.
- The fee for this procedure has to be paid as per the authority request.
- Once the verification process is done by the federal agency will contact the applicant regarding the inspection of the Radio Telephone in the vessel.
- The commission will use the FCC – Licensed technicians to conduct the ship inspection, and determine the radio installation is in compliance with requirement of the communication act.
- After successful completion of inspection, the authority will issue the radio-telephony certificate.
- The processing time of this procedure completes within a month.

Need for the DocumentEdit
- Every vessel equipped with a radio installation on an international voyage must have a Cargo Ship Safety Radio Certificate. Each radio installation must meet the requirements of the Federal Communication Commission and the International Convention for Safety of Life at Sea.

- A certificate called a Cargo Ship Safety Radio Certificate shall be issued after survey to a cargo ship of 300 gross tonnage and over, fitted with a radio installation, including those used in life-saving appliances, which complies with the requirements.

- A vessel may be exempted by the Commandant from complying with certain requirements of the Convention under his administration upon request made in writing to him and transmitted via the Officer in Charge, Marine Inspection.
- When an exemption is granted to a vessel by the Commandant under and in accordance with the Convention, an Exemption Certificate describing such exemption shall be issued through the appropriate Officer in Charge, Marine Inspection, in addition to other required certificates.
