Step – 1 Course

  1. Before Getting an Emblaming License, the applicant needs to complete a formal education program in mortuary science or funeral service accredited by the American Board of Funeral Service Education (ABFSE).
  2. The applicant can check the program details from the following link by selecting the respective states link
  3. Programs usually involve classroom instruction and hands-on training.
  4. Completion of an embalming apprenticeship under the supervision of a licensed embalmer. The apprenticeship provides practical experience and exposure to the funeral service profession.
  5. Also, the applicant needs to get an experience in the field.
  6. Complete the required clinical rotations or internships as part of your education program.
  7. These experiences are essential to gain practical skills and hands-on training in treating patients.



Step – 2 Examination

  1. Graduates must pass the National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE) exam.
  2. This exam assesses the knowledge and skills needed for entry-level physical therapy practice.



Step – 3 Licensure Examination

  1. Successfully pass the National Board Examination administered by the International Conference of Funeral Service Examining Boards (ICFSEB).
  2. This exam assesses your knowledge of funeral service principles and embalming techniques.



Step - 4

  1. After completing the exam successfully, the applicant has to get a license from the state Licensing Board link.
  2. An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned branch officer.
  3. The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
  4. Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  5. The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
  6. Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
  7. The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
  8. After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
  9. Then the application will be processed further. All the updates on the application status will be sent via SMS to the applicant’s mobile number.
  10. Once the process gets completed, the applicant gets a call from the office regarding the application.
  11. The applicant will get the dental license through the mail.
  12. This entire process can be completed within 30 - 40 days or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.

EligibilityEdit

To get an embalming license in the United States, you must meet the following requirements:

  • You must be at least 18 years old.
  • You must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • You must complete a mortuary science program that is accredited by the American Board of Funeral Service Education (ABFSE).
  • You must pass the National Board of Funeral Directors and Embalmers (NBDE) exam.
  • You must pass the state embalming exam.
