Apply online

  1. To Get Small Business Lending Survey, the applicant has to approach the U.S. Census Bureau Economic Indicators Division link
  2. To start this procedure, the applicant has to create an account in Census Bureau by using this following link
  3. If the applicant has already created a Census Account, click the “Sign in” button.
  4. If the applicant is a new user to access the survey the applicant has to click the “Register” button.
  5. Enter all the details to complete the registration process and click the “FINISH” button.
  6. After completing, go back to the sign in page and enter the user ID, password and click the “Sign in” button.
  7. Now, the applicant can add connect to the link survey.
  8. The applicant has to link the account to the survey with an authentication code sent from the Census Bureau.
  9. Once the applicant gets this authentication code, click on the “Add Authentication Code” button under “My Surveys.”
  10. Enter the unique 12 – digit code and click the “Submit” button.
  11. After submitting the authentication code, a survey card option will appear under “My Surveys.”
  12. The applicant has to enter all the details in the given page for survey card.
  13. The Census Bureau will mail separate, unique authentication codes for each different surveys. Each code can be entered and a separate survey card will appear under “My Surveys.”
  14. All the survey reports will check and follow-up by the U.S. Census Bureau Economic Indicators Division.
  15. The fee for this procedure is free of cost.
  16. The processing time for completing the survey report is within 3 hours.


NOTE: Each unique authentication code can only be used one time.


To check the status

  1. Click “Options” on the applicant survey card.
  2. Select “Filing Status” option.
  3. Review the displayed table. Surveys with an entry in the “Date Received” column have been received by the Census Bureau.
    NOTE: Blanks in this column indicate the survey is not yet received.
  4. It takes 1 or 2 business days for the filing status to be updated after submitting surveys.
  5. Return to the “Report Now” button to access the electronic reporting instrument to complete and submit any missing surveys.

  • The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) is sponsoring the 2022 Small Business Lending Survey and it is administered by the U.S. Census Bureau.
  • Banks are the most common source of external financing for small businesses, which comprise 99.9 percent of all U.S. firms. Despite the importance of small businesses to the U.S. economy and the importance of bank lending to small businesses, there is little high-quality data on this activity.
  • This lending survey aims to fill the gaps in understanding of small business lending by banks and how banks contribute to this vital part of the economy.
