Apply In Person

  1. To Get Phosphate or Sodium Use Permit or License, the applicant has to approach The United States Department of the Interior Bureau of Land Management district offices link
    Note: The Bureau of Land Management Headquarters Office in Washington, D.C., the BLM operates 12 state offices that have jurisdiction across the nation. The applicant can choose their nearby district offices to submit the application form.
  2. An application form will be provided to the applicant or the applicant can download the form from the given following link
  3. The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form.
  4. The applicant has to make sure to attach all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  5. The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
  6. Submit the completed form and the necessary documents to nearby Bureau of land management district offices.
  7. Fee for this procedure is mentioned under the “Fees” section of this page.
  8. The BLM (Bureau of land management) will examine the application for completeness and accuracy.
  9. Once all the verification process is done by the authority, the applicant receives a notification through a mail.
  10. The applicant has to get the permit by visiting the office.
  11. The processing time for this procedure is up to 15-30 days.

  • Applicant must complete the application form before submitting. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
  • Applicant must provide genuine information while applying for this procedure.
  • The applicant must prepare original and four (4) copies. Submit all copies to BLM for signature on original and first copy. Original is assembled with the case record; first copy is sent to the lessee or permittee; and three (3) copies are sent to the Mining Supervisor of the Geological Survey

Need for the DocumentEdit

  • Phosphate use permits authorize the applicant to conduct activities to properly extract, treat, or remove the mineral deposits. Sodium use permits authorize the applicant to occupy camp sites, develop refining works and use the surface for other purposes connected with, and necessary to, the proper development and use of the deposits.



Information which might helpEdit

  • Use permits allow the applicant to use the surface of lands not included within their permit or lease to help them develop the mineral deposits. The applicant may only get a use permit during the life of their permit or lease, and only for unentered, unappropriated, BLM-administered land. Use permits are not prospecting permits.

  • Use permits are issued only in support of phosphate and sodium permits and leases. For phosphate permits and leases, BLM may issue you a use permit to use up to 80 acres. For sodium leases, use permits are limited to no more than 40 acres.
