Procedure

Apply by Mail

1. To Get Building Permit or Licenses Survey (BPS), the applicant has to approach the U.S. Census Bureau Economic Indicators Division link
2. The applicant has to download the application forms from the following link link, link
3. The applicant has to fill all the details in the application form.

   Note: The applicant can contact the Residential Construction Branch for completing the survey at: 1–800–845–8244. Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern time.

4. For completing this also refer the sample survey form which is mentioned in the “Sample Documents” section of this page.
5. Make sure that the applicant has to attach all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
6. The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
7. Submit all the documents with the completed form to the office mail address.
8. The mailing address is mentioned in the “Office Locations & Contacts” section of this page.
9. Once the verification process gets completed, the applicant gets the notification from the officer through mail or SMS.
10. If the officer is not satisfied with the verification process, the respective officer will come for inspection.
11. The fee for this procedure has to be paid as per the authority’s request.
12. After the process gets completed, the applicant gets the permit through mail.
13. The processing time for this procedure is up to 30 days.

Eligibility

Those who are looking to build on a piece of land would have to request for a building permit before doing so. It does not matter who owns the piece of real estate.

• The annual statistics are not based upon a sample, but its obtained by direct cumulating the data for the 19,000 permit-issuing places.
