Apply In Person

  1. To Apply for Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP), the applicant has to approach the United States Department of Energy link
  2. An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer.
  3. The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
  4. Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  5. The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
  6. Submit the application form and the documents to the authorized officer.
  7. The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
  8. After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
  9. Then the application will be processed further.
  10. Once the process gets completed, the applicant gets a call from the office regarding the application.
  11. If your application is approved, a home assessment will be scheduled. An energy auditor will visit your home to assess its energy efficiency and identify potential weatherization measures.
  12. Based on the assessment, the local agency will schedule weatherization work on your home. This could include insulation, sealing gaps and cracks, upgrading heating and cooling systems, and other energy-saving improvements.
  13. After the weatherization work is completed, a final inspection will be conducted to ensure that the improvements meet quality standards.
  14. Once the work is approved, your home will be more energy-efficient, leading to lower energy bills and improved comfort.
  15. Some programs might conduct follow-up visits to ensure that the improvements are effective and address any additional needs you might have.
  16. This entire process can be completed within 3 – 4 weeks or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.

EligibilityEdit

To be eligible for the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) in the United States, the applicant must meet the following criteria:

  • Income: The applicant household income must be at or below 200% of the federal poverty level.
  • Homeownership: The applicant must own your home or be a renter with a signed lease.
  • Energy burden: The applicant energy burden must be at least 6% of your household income.
  • Health risk: The applicant must be at risk of health problems due to inadequate housing conditions.
