Apply In Person

  1. To Apply for Prospecting Permit or License, the applicant has to approach the United States Department of the Interior Bureau of Land Management district offices link
    Note: The Bureau of Land Management Headquarters Office in Washington, D.C., the BLM operates 12 state offices that have jurisdiction across the nation. The applicant can choose their nearby district offices to submit the application form.
  2. An application form will be provided to the applicant or the applicant can download the form from the given following link
  3. The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form.
  4. The applicant has to make sure to attach all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  5. The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
  6. Submit the completed form and the necessary documents to nearby Bureau of land management district offices.
  7. The Fee for this procedure is mentioned under the “Fees” section of this page.
  8. The BLM (Bureau of land management) will examine the application for completeness and accuracy.
  9. Once all the verification process is done by the authority, the applicant receives a notification through a mail.
  10. The applicant has to get the certificate by visiting the office.
  11. The processing time for this procedure is up to 15-30 days.

InstructionsEdit

  • Applicant must complete the application form before submitting. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
  • Applicant must provide genuine information while applying for this procedure.
  • Applicant must submit three copies of the application, typewritten or printed plainly and signed in ink, must be filed in the BLM office having jurisdiction for the State in which the lands are located.
  • The license holder may remove only material needed to demonstrate the existence of a valuable mineral deposit.

A prospecting permit gives the applicant the exclusive right to prospect on and explore lands available for leasing under this part to determine if a valuable deposit exists of:

  • Phosphate
  • Sodium
  • Potassium
  • Sulphur
  • Gil Sonite or
  • A hard rock mineral.

Obligations to BLM under an approved prospecting permit

  • Pay the annual rental in a timely fashion.
  • Comply with all permit terms and stipulations the surface management agency attached to the permit.
  • Conduct only those exploration activities approved as part of existing exploration plan.
  • Discontinue activities following expiration of the initial term unless and until BLM extends your permit.
