- Within the State and local agency laboratory, trainees must be assigned to a well-established guns unit.
- Prior to graduation from the programme, agencies must have an experienced firearm and tool mark examiner on staff to guide and prepare their trainees with necessary assignments and a research project.

EligibilityEdit
- To be considered, a candidate must be a U.S. citizen and possess the following qualifications:
- Have a bachelor's degree in a comparable field; (sciences, criminal justice etc.).
- Work full-time as a trainee to fulfil the tasks of a Firearms and Tool mark examiner.
- Assign them an experienced Firearm and Software part examiner to supervise their training.
- Have the agency send a letter certifying the final outcome of a background inquiry on agency letterhead.

- There is no fee for this procedure.
ValidityEdit
- The NFEA's closing date for the 2022-2023 session is June 30, 2022, and choices will be made shortly afterwards.
- The class is expected to begin in October 2022.

InstructionsEdit
- Prior to graduation from the programme, agency must have an expert firearm and tool mark examiner on board to guide and prepare their trainees with necessary assignments and a research project.
- Once the trainee has completed the NFEA programme, the trainer will be expected to continue with a formal training programme.

Need for the DocumentEdit
- In 1999, the ATF established the National Firearms Examiner Academy (NFEA) to teach admission firearms examiners from regional, state-wide, and federal police organisations.
- This innovative academy is collaboration between the ATF's National Laboratory Center, the Association of Firearm and Tool Mark Examiners (AFTE), and a private consultant to ensure that new tool mark examiners receive sufficient training.
