Step – 1 Course & Exam

  1. Before Applying for a Geology License, Obtain a bachelor's degree in geology or a related field from an accredited institution. Many states require a minimum of a bachelor's degree to qualify for licensure.
  2. They combine classroom education with hands-on training.
  3. Also, the applicant needs to get an experience in the field.
  4. Gain relevant work experience in geology. The amount of required experience varies by state but typically ranges from 2 to 5 years.
  5. Prepare for and pass the National Association of State Boards of Geology (ASBOG) Fundamentals of Geology (FG) examination.
  6. After passing the FG exam and meeting other state-specific requirements, you may be eligible to sit for the ASBOG Practice of Geology (PG) examination, which is the second part of the licensure process.



Step – 2 License

  1. After completing the exam successfully, the applicant has to get a license from the respective colleges or State licensing Board.
  2. An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned branch officer.
  3. The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
  4. Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  5. The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
  6. Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
  7. The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
  8. After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
  9. Then the application will be processed further. All the updates on the application status will be sent via SMS to the applicant’s mobile number.
  10. If you are selected for interviews, be prepared to discuss your qualifications, experiences, and your understanding of epidemiological principles and methods.
  11. Once the process is completed, the applicant gets a call from the office regarding the application.
  12. The applicant will get the technician license through the mail.
  13. This entire process can be completed within 30 - 40 days or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.
