  1. To Apply for Animal Protein Free Verification, the applicant has to approach the U.S Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Marketing Service Livestock, Poultry and Seed Program link
  2. To obtain Animal Protein Free Verification certificate, the application process involved in two steps,


Step 1: Get Approved Through USDA Quality System Assessment (QSA) Program.

  • To Apply for Animal Protein Free Verification, the applicant must approve through QSA program.
  • The USDA Quality System Assessment (QSA) Program provides companies that supply agricultural products and services the opportunity to assure customers of their ability to provide consistent quality products or services.
  • The applicant has to mail or directly submit the required documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  • The applicant has to submit their documents to U.S Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Marketing Service Livestock, Poultry and Seed Program contact details given in “Office Locations & Contacts” section of this page.

Step 2: Obtain Animal Protein Free Verification Program

  1. After approved by QSA Program, the applicant has to approach the U.S Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Marketing Service Livestock, Poultry and Seed Program link
  2. The applicant has to mail or directly submit the required documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  3. APF products after meeting the requirements, they are added to the Business Listing of APFV Suppliers. In addition, eligible APF products must be produced under an approved Program and be identified as meeting the requirements of the applicable USDA APFV Program.
  4. Products approved under the APFV Program that also meet Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS) requirements may be issued a FSIS Export certificate which includes the applicable statements as listed in the FSIS Library of Export Requirements.
  5. Once all the verification process is done by the authority, the applicant receives a notification through a mail.
  6. The applicant has to get the permit by visiting the office.
  7. The fee for this procedure has to be paid as per the authority’s request.
  8. The processing time for this procedure is up to 15-30 days.

Need for the DocumentEdit

  • The USDA Animal Protein Free Verification (APFV) Program was developed for the U.S. Poultry Industry to facilitate the international trade of eligible U.S. poultry and poultry products to customers who request products be derived from poultry that has not been fed animal proteins.
  • The USDA-APFV Program is a voluntary, user-fee service available to poultry producers and processors to provide verification that poultry have never been fed animal protein, animal fats, or animal by-products.
