Apply In Person

  1. To Apply for Adoption of Wild Horses or Burros, the applicant has to approach the United States Department of the Interior Bureau of Land Management district offices link
  2. An application form will be provided to the applicant or the applicant can download the form from the given following link
  3. The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form.
  4. The applicant has to make sure to attach all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  5. The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
  6. Submit the completed form and the necessary documents to nearby Bureau of land management district offices.
  7. The Fee for this procedure has to be paid as per the authority’s request.
  8. The BLM (Bureau of land management) will examine the application for completeness and accuracy.
  9. Once all the verification process is done by the authority, the applicant receives a notification through a mail.
  10. The applicant has to visit the office to adopt the animal, further more detail of adopting process will be intimate by the officer.
  11. The processing time for this procedure is up to 15-30 days.

  6. In auction history the applicant can view the details of animal.
  7. In the documents page it includes two tables that show all the applications details which the applicant has submitted or saved. The second table includes all Private Maintenance and Care Agreements and Bills of Sale. The applicant can also submit a “New application” using the link above the Applications table.
  8. In favourite page, the applicant can select the favourite animal details in top page.
  9. Finally, logout the window and select the application.
  10. Enter all the details in the application form.
  11. The applicant has to make sure to upload all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  12. Once completed, the applicant has to click the “Submit application” button at the bottom of the application page.
  13. The applicant checks the application progress.
  14. The applicant can check the animal search by login.
  15. Can purchase the animal with the fixed rate.
  16. The fee will depend on type of animals.
  17. After completing all the buying process, the applicant has to select the pickup location.
  18. The processing time for this procedure is up to 15-30 days.

  • Adoption of wild horses and Burros are BLM's only option to manage the population. The federal government manages horse populations on BLM land, but off BLM land, a network of wild horse advocates is working to reduce the population in a different way.
