Uganda - Apply for a Duplicate Registration Book/Number Plate


Procedure

The following should be done before making the applicant

  1. In case of lost number plate or logbook start by reporting it to the nearest police station, upon that you will be issued with a police report
  2. Then visit the newspaper office and make an advertisement of the lost number plate or logbook usually within 14 days of making the report begin the application

Apply Online

  • To apply for a duplicate registration book / number plate, the applicant has to use the following link

  • Under e-services select Motor Vehicle Registration from the menu. On the extended menu select Applications.
  • Select new form and select duplicate in the purpose
  • Fill in the details on the first page.
  • Go to duplicate page and answer question 1. Fill in the field below up to number 5.
  • Go to attachment page and select the document you will attach on the application
  • Go to Payment details page and click on Register payment. Select Bank and payment mode and click submit.
  • On submission you will get an acknowledgement receipt and payment registration slip
  • Take printout, go and pay in the Bank and go to the URA Licensing office with your application and the Book/plate will be processed.

Note: In case of a lost, stolen or damaged licences plate number you will be told to go to the number manufacturing and make the duplicate number.



In person application

  1. Visit the Uganda revenue branch (URA), licences office with all the required documents and the recommended fee
  2. Approach the services desk and request for an assessment form for the application of the duplicate number plate or logbook
  3. Fill in the application form accurately and submit it to the attending official, whom will verify them, upon which will issue you with a payment receipt.
  4. Head to any designated bank with the payment receipt (the bank will issue you a bank account) and make the recommended application fees upon which you will be issued with a bank receipt slip, head back to the licencing office with the bank receipt slip
  5. if all the information are in order ,You will be issued with the duplicate registration book within one working day
    Note; In case of a lost, stolen or damaged licences plate number you will be asked to go to the number manufacturing and make the duplicate number





Required Documents

Duplicate number plate

  • Application form for the duplicate plate signed and stamped if the applicant is non-individual
  • Police report in case the plate was stolen or lost and if damage you will surrender the damage plate
  • A newspaper advert in case the plate were lost (optional)
  • Laboratory report from the CID headquarters in case both plates were lost (optional)
  • Copy of the identification number of the applicant
  • Payment slip for the duplicate fees

Duplicate logbook

  • Application form for the duplicate log book signed and stamped if company
  • Damage logbook if available or police letter and an advert if it was lost (optional)
  • Copy of the identification document
  • Payment slip for the duplicate fees

  • All motorist in Uganda with a vehicle which is registered in Uganda by the URA and have their number plate, logbook lost, stolen or damaged

Instructions

  • Report the lost or stolen number plate/logbook to the police you will be issued with the a police report then make an advert on the newspaper about the lost/stolen number plate or logbook
  • Visit the licensing officer and request for the duplicate number plate or logbook for the assessment application form or you can apply online
  • Go to the designated bank and make the required payment on which you will be issued with a bank payment slip
  • Your documents will be verify and process if all the information are in order you will be issued with the duplicate log book by the URA
  • Return the damage number plate to the URA office on the agreed date
  • In case of a lost, stolen or damaged licences plate number you will be told to go to the number manufacturing and make the duplicate number

Required Information

  • Full name of the owner of the vehicle
  • Vehicle registration number
  • Detail about the vehicle (mode, make, colour etc.)
  • Surrender Damage logbook or number plate
  • Police report
  • Newspaper Advert copy
  • National identification card of the owner (ID card)
  • Taxation identification card (TIN)




Need for the Document

  • It is mandatory requirement for all Uganda motorist to report any lost, stolen or damage number plate or logbook to the police or the Uganda revenue authority
  • Valid registration book (logbook) proves ownership of a motor vehicle
