Apply In Person

1. To Apply for an Animal Or Livestock Movement Permit (License), the applicant has to approach the Ministry of Agriculture Livestock Fisheries link
2. The applicant has to visit the office and submit the request letter.
3. An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer.
4. The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
5. Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
6. The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
7. Submit all the documents with the completed form to the veterinary office for getting the report.
8. Upon making the request, the veterinary officer will inspect the health of the animals being transported and vaccinate them, if necessary.
9. Upon satisfaction, the veterinary officer will issue a health certificate and vaccination certificate.
10. The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
11. Now, the applicant submits all the documents along with the health certificate to the livestock department.
12. After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
13. Then the application will be processed further. All the updates on the application status will be sent via SMS to the applicant’s mobile number.
14. Once the process gets completed successfully, the applicant will get the license from the office.
15. This entire process can be completed within 5 – 7 days or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.

• A formal letter from the animal owner requesting a permit.
• Application form
• Animal owner’s identification document
• Current Health Certificate from a Veterinary doctor from any local district
• A vaccination card of the animal signed by a Veterinary doctor

• All citizen of Kenya who wishes to move their animal from one region to another is eligible to make this application.

• The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.

• The permit is for one-time validity.

• Applicants must complete the application form before submitting it. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
• Applicants must provide genuine information while applying for this procedure.

• The animal's current health background information of the animal stating the condition of the animal.
• The detailed letter about why the owner is requesting a permit to transport the animal.
• The identification document of the owner of the animal.
• The vaccination card of the animal was signed by the district Veterinary doctor.
• The number and description of the animals to be moved.
• The route by which the animals are to travel.
• The period for which the permit holds is good.
• The place to which the animals may be moved.
• The method by which the animals may be moved.

• The permit allows the holder to move from one region to another.
• The main purpose of this permit is to mitigate the spread of diseases among animals by ensuring the animals which are being moved are healthy and have undergone measures to prevent the spread of diseases.

No movement within the restricted area without a permit

• Within a restricted area no animal shall be moved from or onto any farm, onto or over any public road, into, from or over any forest area, or from, onto, or over any unalienated Government land, except under a permit.
• Within an infected area, no animal shall be moved from or onto any farm, onto or over any public road, onto, from or over any forest area, from, onto, or over unalienated Government land, without a permit.
• No animal shall be moved from or into a restricted area except under a permit authorizing such movement.
• No animal shall be moved from one district to another district without a permit authorizing such movement.

e.g. Birth Certificate can be used as proof of identity.
