Apply via Agent
Apply in Person:
- A PIN or AIN once issued, expires in twelve (12) calendar months. Any Nurse Assistant, Nurse, or Midwife whose PIN or AIN expires is required to apply through the Council’s Offices. Council’s Regional Office Contacts
- The licensee should refer to the “Eligibility” section of this page to confirm eligibility, before collecting all relevant application forms to be completed for renewing the License to Practice Nursing with respect to the requirement from the relevant department.
- Carefully complete the forms with appropriate information under relevant sections. But don’t forget to attest the forms with your signature once completed.
- Attach all the documents listed in the “Required Documents” section, then, submit the form to the relevant authority at the office. Don’t forget to make the stipulated payment as directed by the officials.
- After you’ve submitted the form, the application and other documents will be forwarded for examination and verification processes.
- Next is the verification and validation process by the officials which will determine if your application will be approved or denied.
- Once the verification and validation processes are over and if the application is found sufficient, it will be approved and the officials will proceed to take the required steps to issue the renewed license.
- After the successful dossier assessment phase is completed the Council shall update the nurse/midwife’s; Professional Identification Numbers (PIN) and Nurse Assistants are also issued with Auxiliary Identification Number (AIN) profile/information.

Required Documents
- Duly completed and signed renewal Application Forms.
- Two (2) Current Passport Pictures in Prescribed Uniform over a Red background for Nurse Assistants (Auxiliaries)
- Two (2) Current Passport-size Pictures in the Prescribed Uniform over a White background for the Nurse.
- Evidence that the licensee has accumulated the required Continuous Professional Development (CPD) points.
- Expired license.
- Photocopies of certificates of registration.
- Original evidence of Payment of all applicable fees.
- Any other additional supporting documentation as requested by the Authority.

Eligibility
Applicants should meet the following criteria to be eligible to apply:
- The applicant must have accumulated the required Continuous Professional Development (CPD) points.
- The required minimum CPD points for PIN/AIN renewal are as follows {Category Required CPD Points}
- Nurse Assistants: Ten (10) Points
- CHN, EN, NAC & NAP/; Staff Nurses/Staff Midwives up to Fifteen (15) Points
- Nursing / Midwifery Officers/ Senior Nursing/Midwifery Officer/ Twenty (20) Points
- Health Tutor/Assistant Lecturers and above
- The individual should be registered with the council and a holder of a practicing license.
- To be of good reputation and commendable conduct.
- To have never been sentenced in a felony or misdemeanor (for a custodial penalty in a crime involving moral turpitude or breach of trust, unless rehabilitated in either case). In short, not to have a criminal record.
Fees
- Licensing fee of $ 125 or its Ghana cedi equivalent to the Council.
Validity
- A PIN or AIN once issued, expires in twelve (12) calendar months. Any Nurse Assistant, Nurse, or Midwife whose PIN or AIN expires is required to apply through the Council’s Regional Offices.

Need for the Document
- No Nurse shall be allowed to practice or continue to practice in any year except such a Nurse has paid annual Licensing fees.
Relevance of Professional Identification Numbers (PIN) or Auxiliary Identification Numbers (AIN):
- The PIN confirms one professional status,
- No employer will employ any Nurse Assistant, Nurse, or Midwife without a PIN or AIN,
- It could be used for employment in the private sector even while in retirement.
- It is an offense to practice as a Nurse Assistant, Nurse, or Midwife without a valid PIN or AIN.
- This attracts a penalty and or imprisonment as enshrined under Section 73 (d) of the Health Professions Regulatory Bodies Act, 2013 (Act 857).
