1. To Obtain Authorization to Use the SOAR Telescope (SOAR), the applicant has to approach the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation - MCTI link
2. Prepare a research proposal detailing the scientific objectives, observational requirements, and expected outcomes of the proposed observations.
3. The proposal submission typically follows specific calls for proposals issued by the SOAR observatory, which may have different themes or time allocations for telescope usage.
4. An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer.
5. The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
6. Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
7. The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
8. Submit all the documents with the completed letter to the concerned officer.
9. The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
10. After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
11. Then the application will be processed further.
12. Once the process gets completed, the applicant gets a call from the office regarding the application.
13. If the research proposal is successful, you will receive approval and an allocation of telescope time for your proposed observations. The telescope time allocation will depend on the scientific merit of the proposal and the availability of telescope resources.
14. Once you have been allocated telescope time, you can conduct your observations using the SOAR Telescope. Afterwards, you will have access to the data collected for your research.
15. This entire process can be completed within 15 days or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.
