Apply In-Person

1. One should first contact Botswana Tourism Organisation at (+267) 3913111 or the Botswana Bureau of Standards (BOBS standards) at (+267) 3903200 for consultation in regards to provisions of the Tourism Act, Tourism Regulations and the Tourism Policy as well as the Grading Requirements for Hotel and related establishments.
2. Application form can be obtained from the Department of Tourism Office near you or download it by clicking the link below link
3. Accurately fill in the form, attach all the required documents and submit them to the tourism office near you either in person or by mail/courier, 3 weeks prior to a scheduled "Tourism Industry Licensing Committee" (TILC) meeting.
4. Your application will be verified and processed by the committee, all decision regarding the issuing of the licences will be shared by mail.
5. If the committee is satisfied that you have complied with the all conditions as set for the application of the licences, you will be issued the licence by the licences issuing authority upon payment of the licence’s fees.

Please take note and ensure that you provide nine copies of each document below:

• Certificate of Incorporation.
• Business plan
• Certificate of Registration.
• Copies of Share Certificates.
• National Identity Card (Omang) of all Business partners.
• Certified Copies of Passport/ National Identity Card (Omang) for all Shareholders.
• Certified Copies of Resident/Work Permits for all Expatriate Employees.
• Title Deed or Lease Agreement or Rental Agreement. (Please note: If the land was acquired for a different purpose other than for the project you wish to undertake you should apply for "Change of Use" or "Planning Permission", from your local authorities or Land Board.)
• An "Environment Management Plan" or "Environmental Impact Analysis". (approved by the Department of Environmental Affairs)
• An "Occupation Permit" that is obtainable at all local land authorities building control unit. (the purpose/intent of the permit to ascertain if the building is habitable)
• Consent from land authorities outlining "Sub-leases"; "Rental Agreements"; "Transfer of Leases" or "Title Deeds" Inspection Reports. (with a grade "Satisfactory" by the Department of Tourism and Environmental Health)
• Approved blue-print (building plans) for the project.
• Please note that all requested "Certified Copies" can be obtained by taking a photo-copy of the document to your nearest Police Station.

There are no application fees. Upon receiving approval, licence fees are payable as follows:

• Campsites - BWP1000.00
  
• Timeshare - BWP1, 000.00

This licence applies to those who wish to obtain a "tourist related accommodation" licence that allows for the operation of the following public venues (hotels, motels, guesthouses including corporate guesthouses, bed and breakfast, self-catering apartments, backpacker’s tourist accommodation, campsites outside protected areas and cultural villages) in Botswana in relation to the Tourism Act, 2009 and Tourism Regulations 2010.
