Bhutan - Replace Lost / Stolen Passport


Procedure

  1. You must immediately report the lost or theft of your passport to the police and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or its nearest diplomatic/consular mission. Your passport will be cancelled and international border control authorities will be notified. A copy of the Police report must accompany the application form for a new passport.
  2. To obtain a replacement passport, go to the a passport office (see contact information below).
  3. Complete an application form and present the police report.
  4. Pay the replacement fee and fine.


Note: If you recover your lost/stolen passport after a new one has been issued, the recovered passport should be immediately returned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or its nearest diplomatic/consular mission. Failure to do so is an offense punishable by a fine.


If you are outside Bhutan

  1. For applicants outside Bhutan, you will need to obtain a certificate on loss or the passport theft, issued by the authorised bodies of the foreign country.
  2. Go to the nearest Embassy of Bhutan and complete an application to obtain a replacement passport. You may use the link provided under "Office Locations & Contacts" to get in touch with the nearest Embassy of Bhutan in the country you are currently staying.
  3. Submit the completed application together with the certificate of loss and other required documents.
  4. Pay the application fee.

Fees

If a passport is lost, stolen or damaged/destroyed applicants will be required to pay a fine of Nu. 5,000/- the first time in addition to the prescribed fee for a new passport.
