Apply In Person:

1. To Change Your Name (Deed Poll), the applicant has to approach the Supreme Court of Bangladesh link
2. An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer.
3. The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the petition form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
4. Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
5. The applicant has to attach photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting it.
6. Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
7. Also, the applicant will have to sign an affidavit that he/she is not a convicted felon or have any current outstanding warrant.
8. The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
9. After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
10. An acknowledgment receipt will be provided. Please save it for future reference.
11. Then the application will be processed further. All the updates on the application status will be sent via SMS to the applicant’s mobile number.
12. Once the process gets completed, the applicant gets a call from the office regarding the application.
13. The applicant has to visit the court, the judge/magistrate presiding in the case, and also may ask a question like reasons for changing their name.
14. Once all get completed, the applicant will get the permit to change the name.
15. This entire process can be completed within 30 days or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.

• Name change generally refers to the legal act by a person of adopting a name different from their name at birth, marriage, or adoption.

• Once the applicant has a Change of Name Certificate, you can start changing the name on his/her identification documents (e.g. driver's license, passport, etc) and with government departments and other organizations.

• The deed poll name change is used as a proof document.
