Apply In Person

1. To Obtain Civil Status/ Single Status Certificate / No Impediment, the applicant has to approach the Ministry of Interior – link
2. An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer.
3. The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
4. Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
5. The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
6. Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
7. The applicant has to pay the fee as per the authority’s request.
8. After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. #If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
9. An acknowledgment receipt will be provided. Please save it for future reference.
10. Then the application will be processed further. All the updates on the application status will be sent via SMS to the applicant’s mobile number.
11. Once the process gets completed, the applicant gets a call from the office regarding the application.
12. For further details for completing the procedure, the applicant follows the instruction given by the officer.
13. This entire process can be completed within 3 – 6 weeks or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.

This document is required as a supporting document if you are getting married in Algeria and other countries.

Overseas marriage authorities often require evidence a party to the marriage is free to marry. Such evidence may be a Result of Marriage Certificate from the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages.

This document will most likely be required as a supporting document if you are getting married in a foreign country.

This document can also be required for employment in a foreign country.

You can get a Certificate of No Impediment\ Single Status Certificate from your local registry office or, if you live abroad, you can contact your nearest Algeria Embassy or Consulate and they will be able to help you in obtaining the required documents.

This certificate is a sworn statement saying that you are not married at the present time and are eligible to marry.
An interesting fact about this type of document is that there are many names given for it. For example look at this list: "Single Status Statutory Declaration" or a "Certificate of Legal Capacity to Contract Marriage" or a "Single Status Certificate" or "Free-to-marry statement".

A Single Status Certificate also referred to as a No Marriage Affidavit, Certificate of Freedom to Marry or Certificate of No Impediment, is a sworn statement saying that you are eligible to marry.

It is an affidavit on stamp paper written and signed by your close relatives, e.g. Parents or Brother. In this affidavit, a family member will state that Mr.XYZ Son/Daughter of Mr. ABC is not currently married.

If the required documents are issued in another language than Arabic, English or French, please provide an official translation (by a sworn translator) of this document in one of these three languages.

You may require a Single Status certificate if you intend to be married overseas or if you are returning to your country of residence to be married. It certifies if you have been married in Algeria during a specified period.

Regarding the correction of consular civil status acts, Article 108 of the Order N� 70-20 dated 19 February 1970 relating to the civil status provides that: "No act of civil status received in a diplomatic or consular post can be, for errors or omissions, rectified except by an Order of the President of the Court of Algiers. If an act transcribed on the civil status registers is corrected by a foreign judicial decision, this decision must obtain the exequatur from the Court of Algiers".
