New Delhi - How to Obtain a Duplicate Driving Licence

Introduction

A Driving Licence is an official document certifying that the holder is suitably qualified to drive a motor vehicle. Under the provisions of the  Motor Vehicles Act,1988 in India, no person can drive a motor vehicle in any public place unless he holds a valid Driving Licence issued to him, authorising him to drive a vehicle of that particular category.

COMMON GUIDELINES FOR WORKS AT RTO


Working hours :10.00 a.m to 5.30 p.m (lunch hour 1:30 pm to 2:15 pm) Monday to Saturday. Offices remain closed on every second saturday and on all general holidays as notified by the State Government.


The following are different sections at Regional Transport Office.

1.Driving Licence Section deals with issue of Learners Licence, Driving Licence, International Driving Permit, Conductor Licence and related transactions.

2.Registration Section deals with Transport, Non-Transport, Temporary Registration, Re-Registration, Renewal of Registration, HPA Entry/Termination of hypothecation/Hire Purchase/Lease, Transfer of ownership, Change of Address, Clearance Certificate, No Objection Certificate and related transactions.

3. Treasury Section deals with collection of Fees and Tax.

4. Permits Section deals with various types of permits relating to transport vehicle.

5. Inspection Wing deals with issue and renewal of fitness certificate, vehicle inspection for new registration/migration/renewal of registration certificate, Accident Inspection and related works.

6. Public Relations and Help Desk Deals with supply of application, assistance and information.

· Public are requested to approach the above branches for speedy disposal of work related to various items of works mentioned above, during the office hours between 10.00 am to 2.30 pm.

· The procedures to be followed on each item of work are indicated in this website.

· The Public Relations Officer in each office is available for guidance.Transport Adalat is conducted once in three months to hear the grievances where the public can air their problems/suggestions.

Required Information

  1. Application in Form LLD.
  2. FIR/NCR of the lost licence
  3. Challan clearance report from Traffic Police (in case of Commercial licence renewal).
  4. A Fee of Rs.200.Form No 1.Self Declaration of Physical Fitness.
  5. Attested Copy valid address Proof.

Procedure

It is recommend keeping the photocopy of licence safe, particulars of licence noted with you so that you may not face troubles in case of loss/theft. It would be easier to locate about your licence particulars from the record. If you can not provide the particulars it is advisable to go ahead for fresh licence instead of duplicate of licence For duplicate licence you have to approach the issuing authority and the particulars will be verified from their records. The validity of duplicate licence will be the same of your previous licence. The original issuing authority will issue your duplicate licence. If your licence is lost and expired by more than 6 months your case requires permission from Head Quarter of Transport Department. Duplicate Driving Licence There Is The Provision Of Obtaining The Duplicate Driving License In Case Of: Lost Mutilation Destroyed Torn Application: Form LLD Lost FIR in case Lost 3 latest photographs of passport size are required. Fees: (Paid Over The Cash Counter Of RTO): Rs.15.00 for Driving Liscense Book Rs. 215.00 for PVC Card of DL. Documents: Affidavit by the applicant that has been sworn before any 1st class magistrate, notary or an executive magistrate regarding the lost of the driving license. If the license are soiled/mutilated/torn than in that case it is necessary to get the license surrendered. Where To File An Application? The application from along with the above mentioned documents is to be submitted to the office of the Asst. R.T.O. (DL Branch). The time taken for the duplicate driving license is to be prescribed by the Asst. R.T.O.

Validity

A Driving License for a private vehicle is valid up to a period of 20 yrs or an age of 50 yrs whichever is experienced earlier. But, a commercial Driving License is valid up to three years.
