Procedure[edit]

If your driver license is valid and it’s stolen or lost, then you would have to file a FIR with the local police station and the report is the vital document to apply for the duplicate driving license
If it is torn / stolen / mutilated then then remains can be attached for applying

Apply In-Person

  1. To apply for a Duplicate Driver License in West Bengal the applicant has to approach the RTO office to which his area belongs to. Please follow our “Office Locations & Contacts” section of this page to get details of the RTO offices. Link for RTO contacts: Contacts Link

  3. Application and Intimation of loss or destruction of driving license in Form LLD (can get it from RTO)
  4. Also make sure you have all the necessary documents to process the application
  5. The applicant should make sure they are eligible for applying duplicate driver license
  6. Present the completed application forms in one of the counter and pay the appropriate fee where the officials would start processing your application and issue the duplicate driver license

Apply Online -- West Bengal Online Duplicate Driver License

  1. First one has to make sure that all the required documents are in hand to apply online.
  2. In order to apply for online, please follow the link : online portal
  3. Please select "Online Services" from the menu and click on "Driver License Related Services".
  4. You will be taken to a new screen where you have to select “West Bengal” in the drop down menu against “Please select the State from where the service is to be taken”.
  5. In the next window, please click “Apply Online” to select “Service on Driving License” option.
  6. The following screen gives you the general information to apply. Here please hit “Continue” to get the next screen. This new page will prompt to enter DL number and DOB details and click "GO" button.
  7. You will be provided with screens where you have to fill in information, Confirm existing details and make appropriate selection and click “Proceed”.
  8. In the following screens you will be requested to enter information and also need to upload the required documents. Once completed, click “submit” at the bottom of the form to process the application.
  9. Please take printout of Acknowledgement.
  10. Take printout of the application form including Acknowledgement and go to nearest RTO office before 11:30 a.m. and submit the application to the RTO official. Authorities will advice the fee amount to be paid. On the appropriate counter pay the fees and submit the application and documents to process the application as per how the apply in-person will be processed

  1. You can take printout of online application form with the help of the link: application link
  2. Please select "Online Services" from the menu and click on "Driver License Related Services".
  3. Select “West Bengal” in the drop down menu against “Please select the State from where the service is to be taken”
  4. In the next window, please click “Download Forms” to select “Print application form” option
  5. Please enter your application number and other detail in the next window and hit ”Submit” to follow the next window to get the printout.

  2. Please click “Appointment (Slot Booking)” to select “services on driving license” option. In the new window select appropriate option and hit submit to process your request to book appointment.

  • The original license is to be surrendered in case of driving license mutilated, torn or damaged.

Validity[edit]

  • A Driving License for a private vehicle is valid up to a period of 20 years or an age of 50 years whichever is earlier, and 5 years thereafter. But, a commercial Driving License is valid up to three years.

Instructions[edit]

One can apply for a duplicate driving license with the concerned authorities when he/she has lost the original driving license, when the license is been torn, mutilated or destroyed or when it is been stolen away. You should never apply for a duplicate driving license when you have the original one with you in good condition as it is illegal to do so.

Issuance of driving licences is a service that is extended by the Transport Department through its District Transport Offices.

The holder of the driving license will have to apply for a duplicate driving license. He/she will have to be present in person at the Regional Transport Office (RTO) or at the unit office to apply for the same. It is mandatory to carry your ID proof along with you. Atleast one of the ID proof should have your photo in it. No one else on your behalf can apply for a duplicate driving license.

It is always advised to apply for a duplicate driving license immediately your original is been lost or damaged. If you exceed a time period of six months from the date of losing your license, then issuance of a duplicate license in your case will have to be approved by the Head Quarter of Transport Department.

Need for the Document[edit]

  • A driving license is an official document that states that a person may operate one or more types of motorized vehicles, such as a motorcycle, car, truck, or a bus, on a public roadway.
  • Under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act,1988 in India, no person can drive a motor vehicle in any public place unless he holds a valid Driving License issued to him, authorizing him to drive a vehicle of that particular category.
  • Driving without Driving license is an offense. Incumbent has to pay penalty
  • In order to avoid unnecessary penalty and enquiry one has to get the duplicate driving license for the one they lost or damaged.
