West Bengal - Obtain Certificate for Relatives of Deceased Person

If the deceased has left a will in favour of a relative, then the relative will have to get this certificate to claim those benefits.
In the absence of a will, the property of a deceased goes to Class I heirs (Son, daughter, widow, mother etc) If there is no Class I heir, it will go to Class II heirs (father, brother, sister, brother's son, sister's son etc). When there's no Class II heir either, then the property will go to Agnates. Those relatives of the deceased may be related by blood or adoption. They should get this certificate in order to claim the benefits

Apply In-Person

  1. Applicant can approach respective thaasildhaar office to apply in-person.

  3. Application form can be obtained from the office while applicant visits OR Applicant shall write an application on an A4 paper. Please affix the advised stamp on the paper as per requirement.
  4. Please go to the respective office and submit the completed application form along with the required document to the respective authorities.
  5. Authorities after receiving the application will check the attached documents and details. If all are in place, they will make entries in their registry and provide you record number for reference.
  6. Thasildhar OR respective authority will assign the application for further processing to the Village Administrative Officer (VAO) and MRI OR the authorities concerned.
  7. There will be a ground level verification and scrutiny of the documents and details will be made against the details provided by the above authorities. Proper investigation of the person’s relationship with the diseased person will be made.
  8. Once the verification is over, these officials will submit their report to the Thaasildhaar OR respective authority to decide and issue the Certificate to the applicant with the names of all legal heirs of the deceased.
  9. Applicant will get the certificate after due verification

Note : In some cases applicant might be asked to contact a lawyer in District Civil Court to get it done.

Apply through Centres:

  1. To apply through centres, the applicant has to approach the respective “CSC” centre in their area. Refer the following link for location: CSC Locator link
    • NOTE: The applicant has to select the state, district and block name from the drop-down menu, or the applicant has to click on their respective district to find nearby centres.
  2. Please visit the centre and consult with the centre operator for your requirement.
  3. If the operator issues an application form, then collect it and pay the requisite fee. Please complete the application form.
  4. Now, submit the completed application along with the required documents as per the “Required Documents” section of this page. It is advised to take the documents in original to the kiosk for scanning purposes.
  5. The operator will process the application online. On successful submission, the applicant will receive an application number as acknowledgement. The applicant will also get a transaction number as a text message on their registered mobile number.
  6. Applicant has to make necessary payment as centre operator quotes and don’t forget to take the receipt.
  7. This application will be forwarded to the respective department for further processing.
  8. ”SMS” triggered update on application status will be sent to the applicant’s mobile. Please keep track of the notification.
  9. The submitted application will be processed by the department. A designated authority will verify the submitted documents and inspect the area of the applicant to clarify the applicant’s details.
  10. Based on the outcome of the above-mentioned steps and other internal processing, the designated issuing authority will issue the certificate.
  11. The status, viz. Approval or Rejection will be conveyed to the applicant through an “SMS” or applicable norms.

  • You should manually complete the application forms and submit in the respective office of your area.
